Playtest Tweaks —Feb. 22, 2017

Had slated Braids, Conjurer Adept and Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir to make appearances in the Group Hug and Group Slug/Stax categories, respectively.

For those 2 I removed:

  • Diabolic Revelation - This card could be good, but I have a feeling I'll be running counterspell duty and won't be able to cast this ever. Will look to replace it with another cheap tutor later.
  • Mind's Dilation - I love this card, but the limited SOI limits its potential.

Mogis, God of Slaughter -> Erebos, God of the Dead. Mogis's impact on the board, despite being great at keeping opposing planeswalker-commanders in check, is presumably too negligible. Erebos provides the double threat of negating lifegain while also providing a card-draw - one of the core mechanics of the deck. Both deserve spots in the deck despite my low devotion counts, so Mogis will return once other cards prove to be subpar.

Still looking to try out:

  • Sin Prodder - I love the idea of not actually having any opponents to chose when there's none in your SOI, thus Sin Prodder is a Phyrexian Arena with no life-loss but a little information revealed. The average CMC in the deck is currently hovering around 4, so when the battling begins, he could light up planeswalkers and slip through with menace, although the card quality varies wildly enough to warrant reservations about consistency (too many Group Hug cards to draw into means opponents will rarely opt to take damage).

  • Bloodgift Demon - Being able to pick allies to draw cards makes puts this guy into the Group Hug category. A 5/4 flier is slightly more evasive than Sin Prodder, and is much more consistent. Life loss not being able to hit planeswalkers keeps this guy from being an all-around beast.
