Description

A deck I had to build when i saw Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker .It seems pretty well positioned in the current meta, which is infested with aggro decks. It is not very successful (yet) though. That is also due to me not being used to play control though.

Comments highly appreciated.

Rounds: 1-1-2.Games: won 4 drew 2 lost 5

First one, won against GB midrange homebrew.

Not much to say I won a grindy first game, time was called in the second game, which I was winning.

Round two, lost to GW:

Won first game due to opponent bein mana screwed.Lost second round to an unanswered Green Sun's Zenith into Sigarda, Host of Herons .Third game I lost due to bad play on my part. Was holding back counterspells for the Thragtusk and Wolfir Silverheart I knew he had. A topdecked Cavern of Souls ruined me.

Round three, draw with UW Delver:

He had no Geist of Saint Traft , but otherwise normal delver deck.Game one I had answers for every thread he laid down, and a resolved Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker won it.Game two he resolved a Restoration Angle which I could not find an answer to.Game three went to time.

Round four, lost to BR Zombies:

With all the Pillar of Flame this should have been a good matchup, but i never drew any, probably should have mulliganed more aggressively.Game one I won due to opponent being mana screwed.Game two was close, but I died to a morbid Brimstone Volley after clearing the board. Game three was even closer. I had Liliana of the Veil out, he had no cards in hand, and his Gravecrawler were gone due to Surgical Extraction . Then he topdecked two Geralf's Messenger and with no Pillar of Flame they finished the job.

Overall I liked the deck, even though it did terrible. My thoughts right now are: - The deck needs more things that just kill creatures. Tragic Slip is nice, but the morbid part sometimes is hard to get. I'm considering Vengeful Pharaoh . Between Liliana, Forbidden Alchemy and Desolate Lighthouse it should be relatively easy to get into the graveyard. The tripple black mana is also not impossible to get, and a 5/4 deathtoucher is always nice to have. - I'm still not sure on the counterspells split. I usually found Mana Leak to be a pretty bad draw late game. Dissipate is not too great either, I might give Rewind a shot. This deck wants all the mana it can get. - Card draw: This deck needs more of it. Perhaps another Forbidden Alchemy . Will try moving Pillar of Flame to the sideboard and taking Mental Misstep out completely. - Mana base: Pretty solid, only had one game where I missed an early landdrop. The double-colour three drops are not very consistent though.
