Sideboard

Artifact (1)

I have been working on this deck since Ixalan was first spoiled, and now a few sets later and with a couple of nice lands from Battlebond, I am fairly happy with how it runs.

This is a casual Naya build with Grimlock, Dinobot Leader at the helm and leans heavily into dinosaur tribal.

As this is a silver-bordered commander, Maro's blog gives us the definitive ruling on what Grimlock interacts with:

As mentioned above, the deck leans heavily into the dinosaur tribal theme and because of that there is a hefty amount of ramp included. Battlebond has given us Pir's Whim which is an excellent card that lets us fish out a Gaea's Cradle or one of our lands that taps for any colour if required while having the added benefit of clearing the board of some troublesome artifacts or enchantments.

Dinosaurs make up the bulk of the creatures, with 24 in the deck (plus Grimlock's transformed side), not including the creatures like Atzocan Seer that care about dinos. I have tried to balance the mana curve as much as possible and I am happy with how it has come out.

There are also some Transform creatures and a couple of vehicles who all gain from having Grimlock in play. Originally there were more transform creatures but these have now been reduced to Avacyn, Nissa and Huntmaster as their utility comes in handy. For vehicles we have Skysovereign which is just an absolute monster of a card and only gets better with Grimlock's +2/+0, and Conqueror's Galleon which we want to flip into a land ASAP.

I was originally planning on running a few double-strike enablers so that Grimlock, Ferocious King can end games even quicker, but I have found that they just water down the deck and most times an 8/8 trampler on turns 4 or 5 can already south the death knells for an opponent.

It is important to note that Gishath can be a REALLY strong creature if you can land it early enough, but I have found with only a total of 23 other dinos in the deck that he can hit, the risk of whiffing on the ability is very high. Still fun when you can flip 1 or 2 off the top.

Any advice, tips or general discussion is welcome!
