Grimgrin, Thraben's Reckoning

Commander / EDH*

Grimgrin marches on Thraben and not even Thalia can stop him this time.

Grimgrin, Corpse-Born- Let's look at the commander first. His first ability allows you to sacrifice as many creatures as you want at instant speed and it makes him +1/+1 stronger for each activation. What this does is it makes him a hell of a lot harder to kill with mass burn or -X/-X. You can respond by sacrificing guys that would otherwise die (or not) to save and beef up your commander. You can swing and threaten commander lethal simply by having a field (I'm looking at you Army of the Damned!) It can also soften the blow of cards like Decree of Pain, since I can remove all of my guys before it resolves.

Key Interactions:

Grimgrin, Corpse-Born+Grave Pact type effect= I can force the table to sacrifice at instant speed. There are currently 3 cards that produce this effect in here (Dictate of Erebos and Butcher of Malakir)

Reassembling Skeleton and Gravecrawler constantly resurrect themselves, making them handy to have around for both Grimgrin and cards like Victimize or Fleshbag Marauder

I do have an infinite combo in here, that requires Grimgrin, Corpse-Born, Gravecrawler and Rooftop Storm. You can cast gravecrawler and sac him infinite times to make grimgrin infinitely large. This is nice, but the combo gets much better with any of these: Grave Pact effect, Diregraf Captain, Noxious Ghoul or Vengeful Dead.

Whenever I am allowed to get a Havengul Lich I am very happy, because I can loop ETB guys in my graveyard using Grimgrin as a sac outlet. If my enemies are unfortunate enough to face down the Lich+Rooftop Storm I can really steamroll people. Undead Warchief helps too.

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed is just bonkers with any creatures with ETB abilities and he is nasty if I have a Grave Pact out.

The chopping block:

Stolen Identity- My argument for this card is that it is bonkers. That is all.

Liliana's Reaver- I am a fan of this card, but I'm not sure it does enough to be worth a slot. Its like Grave Titan and Hypnotic Specter had a baby.
