On the plus side, I pulled two
Grimgrin, Corpse-Born
in my first few Innistrad packs. On the downside, I have pulled none of Grimgrin's most natural compliments,
Gravecrawler
s, to date. And I ain't shelling out money for them as expensive as they are right now.
So, I'll just have to grin and bear it, and make the best I can with what I have on hand. This mish-mash deck is the result. Certainly not something I'd ride into the Pro Tour or anything, but still pretty solid, I think.
Reassembling Skeleton
is a poor man's
Gravecrawler
. Beyond them, it's just a bunch of cheap Zombies recycled with
Ghoulcaller's Chant
(and
Sheoldred, Whispering One
) and Zombie tokens from
Moan of the Unhallowed
,
Army of the Damned
, and
Endless Ranks of the Dead
. Whenever those Zombies perish in battle or as Grimgrin fuel, the opponent takes damage from
Diregraf Captain
.
Not all of those Zombies need to be brought back, though. In fact, keeping some of them in the graveyard is wise so you can perform some upgrades elsewhere, playing your big bruiser Skaabs and fueling
Havengul Runebinder
.
But what would a good black deck be without some good old-fashioned kill spells, too?
Skinrender
fits the bill, as does the thematic
Victim of Night
and the famous (infamous?)
Dismember
and it's newer (and perhaps even better?) cousin
Tragic Slip
, which is pure awesome in a deck where your creatures are dying with regularity.
But it's really all about getting the big boy himself out: Grimgrin. Build him up quick by saccing his Zombie and Skeleton followers, then use him and the big Skaabs to run over the remaining opposition. Equipping them with
Accorder's Shield
can help them not only stay on the attack all the time, but also negates Grimgrin's untap drawback.
Still fiddling with this quite a bit...have yet to actually test it out. Any tips to help me get there? (Other than the obvious "add in 4
Gravecrawler
s"). Any other comments or +1s? Thanks in advance!
