Maybeboard

Grenzo for 4+ power. It looks like a bad deck... and that's intentional! It actually has lots of synergies and relationships that can give lots of flexibility to your game plan, resiliency, and instant-speed win potential. Primarily a combo/value deck, but can bring quick beats with cards like Homura, Human Ascendant, Ogre Battledriver, and Myr Battlesphere.

See the MTGO version here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/grenzofour-20-mtgo-edition/

This is the continuation of http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/grenzofour-2/

Example doomsday pile (bottom to top):

  • Workhorse, Flayer of the Hatebound, Thermopod , Myr Battlesphere, Epitaph Golem . Activate grenzo to get Workhorse. Use workhorse for extra mana, bring in flayer, then thermopod, then sac flayer for extra mana (once or twice, it doesn't matter). Then bring in myr battlesphere, sac all myr for 5 mana, then bring in epitaph golem, put myr battlesphere on bottom, activate grenzo. Continue sacrificing all myr (+5 mana) and then activating golem (-2 mana) and grenzo (-2) for infinite mana, then put flayer on the bottom of library, activate grenzo, and repeat myr battlesphere loop for infinite damage.

Notes

Still need a few cards: Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Homeward Path, Fulminator Mage.

Considering a few others: Metallic Mimic, Kiki-Jiki, Lightning Greaves

Things tried that didn't work very well:

  • Kuon, Ogre Ascendant : It didn't do much against half the decks, and didn't progress my board
  • Gray Merchant of Asphodel: Nice life gain and damage, and won a few games, but other times it didn't impact anything. Too random since almost all my devotion is in creatures.
  • Skinrender : There is better removal and disruption
  • Jar of Eyeballs : No impact late game. No immediate impact either.
  • Precursor Golem was replaced by Goblin Marshal
  • Various comes-into-play tapped lands
  • Flamekin Village for example. I rarely needed haste, and I often needed an untapped land.
  • Off-colour fetches (shuffles are not usually desired)
  • Various non-creature removal and/or card draw. Felt bad to hit with Grenzo.

Current problems

  • If Grenzo gets removed or stolen somehow, it can be more difficult to win. Metallic Mimic would give another doomsday pile with Murderous Redcap (which is already in the deck) and improve my chances, so I might add that. Same with Kiki-Jiki.
  • Stax can really lock this down. If I can't untap my lands for 4 mana, it's tough to get enough mana to do anything.
  • Multiple sweepers can slow us down way too much.

Got any suggestions to fix these problems? Let me know in the comments! Thanks!
