Sorcery (1)

Creature (1)

Welcome, Cxseals1337 here with my latest standard installment. For those of you who have followed me in the past this is my first article in a while; so for my first article in a while (so excuse some awkward writing, grammar errors, and spelling )I want to bring out one of my new standard gems.

overveiw

This deck utilizes the green red dragons build while takeing advantage of the dragon lands and the multitudes of creatures that produce any color mana such as Sylvan Carytid and Shaman of Forgotten Ways to cast dragonlord oujitai and Dragonlord Dromoka. This deck uses mainly flying beaters to take large chunks of an opponents life. Every creature in the deck over 4 mana gains instant value when its played even if it is removed.

mechanics

The deck has heavy focus on mana ramp as such its very rare to get a hand without some sort of mana agent. This is essential as no real threats are available before 4 mana however from 4 and up the threats are instantaneous and gain value.

Thunderbreak Regent- is automatically 3 damage even if it is removed and if not it becomes a massive problem.

Dragonlord Ojutai- Dragonlord Ojutai is by far the most powerful of the dragonlords and acts as great card advantage in the deck

Dragonlord Atarka- The main removal in the deck; Atarka serves as a way to remove most small creatures (and larger creatures like Siege Rhino and Erebos's Titan ) as well as walkers. A big threat as an 8/8 flying trample and a game finisher.

Dragonlord Kolaghan- As far as the lords go Kolghan has seen the least constructed play even though he is all around decent, The reasons he lacks play are fairly apparent after some analysis; He costs 1 more the Stormbreath Dragon, he requires you play black red (sort of this deck gets around it), he is a six drop, he lacks protection, and in many cases hes not an improvement over the fate reforged Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury (which is being considered in this deck. Even after all of this is taken into consideration in this deck he is an improvement over the old choice of surrak huntcaller as he is a 6/5 flyer that gives all creatures haste, this is relivant in the sense that he can be dropped the turn before Atarka or Ojutai and slam for game that turn (or cause a major panic for the opponent) in addition as a flyer he can come in after board wipes and still claim victory. I'm siding with the lord for now if you like this deck (and build it) you have freedom to replace him with Stormbreath Dragon (excellent choice and acceptable replacement) or the the storms fury (I will test this and see how it goes).

Xenagos, the Reveler- This card has been a monster in almost all Jund, Naya, rug, and Gruul monster builds since Theros aired and will continue to be till rotation. This card serves as a token maker and mana agent all in one if this card sticks at any point in the game it has to be dealt with otherwise it will have major affects on board state. by producing tokens it allows this deck to "go wide" in the late game with Atarka's Command or it can use its +1 to ramp out big creatures like atarka in the early stages. against control this card become a nightmare as cards like Crux of Fate become all but useless to affecting board state and even cards like End Hostilities can not deal with the actual problem the walker itself.

Dragonlord Dromoka- dromoka is strange in how it affect the board state with life link and 7 toughness playing dromoka signals the end of the game for aggro usually and with the ability to force the opponent to play at sorcery speed it can leave a lasting effect on the games tempo. In the turn after being played against match-ups with black the card usually dies if it is played early on however it forces an opponent to tap mana on their turn leaving a better chance for other game changing cards to hit and stick leaving the opponent in a miniature cycle of tapping out on their own turn to deal with the after effects of dromoka in other case if enough mana can be put together dromoka can be played first and then followed by another big creature for added value. Aside from this though dromoka is just a way to extend the game and is only a one of for utility purposes.

Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker- Sarkhan found his way into this deck due to his -3 ability (a source of removal in a deck that is some what lacking in it) and the fact he is also a 4/4 flying beater.

Day's Undoing- Timetwister, this is a time twister literally, Timetwister is the power 9 card people forget about the most but it is a power 9 card for a reason. The reason people forget about it is because in vintage the card isn't played as often as its not a required card unlike the mox set, Ancestral Recall, and Black Lotus, and in many cases can be detrimental to the game as it also refills the opponents hand and allows them to get closer to there victory as well. In other formats however (such as legacy, modern, and standard) the card is advantageous in many decks such as delver, affinity, and this deck. This is because Time Twister allows the player to build a large board state, empty their hand , and then completely refill their deck and hand for a very low mana cost.

The reason this card is so good in this deck is because even if an opponent draws into removal spells the player will have also drawn into more big threats that have to be answered as well basically it goes along the principle of the deck that their are more "threats" in the deck than the opponent has "answers" for and as far as this decks concerned it only takes one big threat to end the game.

The final reason this card is so good in this format is because of the delve mechanic. While delve has proven to be a very strong mechanic in this format it also exiles cards from the game this is relevant because in the match-ups such as control and abzan removal and counter spells are often delved away leaving fewer of them in the deck after the resolution of Day's Undoing meaning there is less chance for them to be drawn and a better chance threats sticking on the board.

Sideboard

Gaea's Revenge- This card is a control killer it requires that the decks play either Celestial Flare or Foul-Tongue Invocation. once this card hits the board it is more often than not a guaranteed 8 damage against an opponent with an open field.

Den Protector- comes in against control and abzan matchups.

Rending Volley - Abzan aggro, U/W/x Heroic, and Dragon scorn.

Display of Dominance - Whip match-ups- and black centered decks.

Feed the Clan- Abzan aggro, RDW, Burn

Anger of the Gods- Deathmist Raptor decks, token decks, abzan aggro decks, company decks.

conclusion

This deck is very fun and has been a standard favorite of mine for a few months now as it reminds me a lot of the Jund monsters deck of Ravnica block and really favors my play-style.

As always if you like the build please up-vote or leave a comment; if you want to see more deck techs or other builds check out my profile here leave me feed back or follow me on here for further updates and new stuff.
