My attempt at making a competitive Gonti, Lord of Luxury list.

I like Gonti, Lord of Luxury as there is a lot of tutors in the format that put the tutored card on top of that players library and having a way to not only deny them that card but to also cast it ourselves seems like decent disruption.

Any and all suggestions or help is welcome and greatly appreciated.

The goal of this deck is casting Gonti, Lord of Luxury by taking advantage of infinite mana and a sac outlet and thus exiling all opponents library's.Generally we want to resolve a Ad Nauseam and draw a significant portion of our deck and then use the cards drawn to create a large if not infinite amount of mana so that people can be killed. If the Gonti, Lord of Luxury plan fails or we are unable to assemble the combo we can win with either a large Walking Ballista or a large Torment of Hailfire.

A. Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth + 2 Generic Mana

This combo can be stopped by either the Rings or the Monolith being destroyed while we do not have mana to use the untap ability and copy it again in response.
  1. With both pieces on the battlefield and with access to 2 mana tap the monolith floating 3 generic mana.
  2. Use the floating mana to use its untap ability.
  3. Copy its untap ability using the 2 mana.
  4. When it untaps the first time, tap it floating 3 generic.
  5. When it untaps the second time, tap it again floating another 3 generic.
  6. Repeat using the floating mana to untap the monolith netting 1 generic mana each time.

B. Isochron Scepter + Paradox Engine + Dark Ritual/Cabal Ritual + 2 Generic Mana

This combo can be stopped by either the Engine or the Scepter being destroyed while the Engine trigger is on the stack.

  1. With both the Scepter with either Ritual imprinted on it and the Engine on the battlefield tap the Scepter paying the 2 generic mana to cast the Imprinted Ritual.
  2. This will trigger the Engine untapping the Scepter.
  3. The Ritual will resolve floating 3 black mana.
  4. Repeat using the mana from the Ritual netting 1 black mana each time.

To cast Gonti we need Black Mana so we have to run our Generic Mana through one of these:

  1. Initiates of the Ebon Hand

Death is the heart of this deck and to that end we have these:

  1. Carrion Feeder
  2. Viscera Seer

May as well play Scrying Sheets

I played snow lands just because I like the art but that's a solid card to help with card filtering.

Thanks for the suggestion!!!

Hello! I checked the deck, it is very cool, you have done awesome work with it. Just a question. Could you please tell me how would this combo work?

B. Requires 3 Black Mana and 4 Generic Mana: Top - Night's Whisper - Victimize - Wailing Ghoul - Triskelion - Mikaeus, the Unhallowed.

I understand that you draw 2 cards with Night's Whisper, which are Victimize and Wailing Ghoul. Then you cast the ghoul and put Triskelion and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed to the Graveyard. Then sacrifice the ghoul with Victimize to put Triskelion and Mikaeus to the battlefield. And now what? Triskelion is a 2/2 creature with three +1/+1 counter and if you use the counters to cause damage it will remain a 2/2 creature... Should not be here a sac outlet added? Sorry if I do not understand something obvious.

Hey Rossa once the pair are out its pretty simple.

  1. remove a counter from trike and shoot someone.
  2. Remove the last two counters from trike targeting itself. This will kill it.
  3. Once trike hits grave Undying will trigger and bring him back with 4 counters.
  4. Now just remove two counters to shoot someone then remove the last two again targeting itself.
  5. Rinse and repeat steps 3 and 4.

Hope that helps.

And just as a aside, the reason walking balista needs a sac outlet is because he will only re-enter with a single counter and is a 1/1 because of Mike so he can either kill himself or shoot someone once but not both.
