Why Gonti:

Gonti, Lord of Luxury is a pet card of mine and I think can really throw a wrench in people's plans sometimes. Threatening to steal someone's top deck tutor is something most players don't expect to have to play around and can lead to some interesting games. Also being mono black has it's drawbacks, namely artifact and enchantment removal and lack of counter spells. Gonti helps alleviate this by being able to possibly steal answers from your opponents decks. Overall he's a very fun commander that complements mono black well.

Game plan:

The main game plan is to stall out the game with stax effects and control cards until we can generate infinite mana through one of our combos and then win through Exsanguinate or Walking Ballista. As a back up plan we have plain old Mike and Trike.

Combos:

We have several ways to produce infinite mana and several more to not go infinite but have enough to Exsanguinate for 40ish.

  1. Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth infinite colorless mana (needs to kickstart)

  2. Cabal Coffers + Deserted Temple + Rings of Brighthearth infinite black mana needs 6 swamps

  3. Magus of the Coffers and Umbral Mantle/Staff of Domination infinite black mana needs 6 swamps for mantle 7 for staff

Paradox Engine can also help produce stupid amounts of mana with a few rocks on the field and can draw a ton of cards when paired with Staff of Domination or Erebos, God of the Dead.

Some card choice explanations:

Bloodchief Ascension It might not look like it at first but this card can really hurt storm decks, particularly those that revolve around Ad Nauseam . Draining 2 every time they cast an instant or sorcery can really add up.

Pithing Needle A meta call on my part. My meta has several planeswalker commanders most notably Teferi, Temporal Archmage and Daretti, Scrap Savant. It also shuts down Yisan, the Wanderer Bard amongst others.

Praetor's Grasp/Sadistic Sacrament Combo deck hate plain and simple. Plus Praetor's Grasp can go steal someone elses tutor or grab an answer to a problem on the board.
