Everyone knows the value of token-from-spell generators like Young Pyromancer, Talrand, Sky Summoner, and the like. Now, imagine if they made 3/3s instead of 1/1s or 2/2s. Now imagine if you could target one and make it twice as big. Now imagine having dozens of one-sided boardwipes at your disposal. Then, imagine getting to say to someone “Okay, and I kill you with Reliquary Tower and two Plains.”

If that really gets your blood flowing, then hoo boy have I got a deck for you.

Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper is an easily overlooked and misunderstood creature. I myself owned one for a year and never looked at him as more than a bulk Legend. But, in the wish of having something new and fun today, I decided to look a little harder at him. And holy crap is it the most fun I’ve ever had.

There’s no better feeling then pumping out 3/3s, 6/6s, and more every time you deny another player one of their spells or permanents. Spells like Steady Progress and Tezzeret's Gambit have so much value, it’s nuts. Every classic wipe like Hour of Revelation, Planar Cleansing, and Planar Outburst become strongly one-sided, leaving you with several large boys. Other spells like Mirrorweave have new uses that they never did before.

The obvious frailty of this deck is the fact that your creatures are your mana. This leaves your mana sources as easier targets for removal, and makes the “attack or cast” decision very tough. This is somewhat prevented by the slew of protective instants and enchantments that keep your boys healthy. Furthermore, spells that untap your creatures give you that post-combat mana you need anyways.

This deck is very Commander-centred. If that is your playstyle, then you’re sure to have fun with Noyan Dar.
