Godo, the One Turn Wonder

Commander / EDH

Abidingprism

This is my creation of a Cedh version of Godo, Bandit Warlord.

I have another deck that runs more equipment, and isn't as focused around this one outlet.http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/godo-the-one-hit-wonder/

The idea is to use fast mana to get to the one-shot kill, and only running the equipment that will get you there. To get to the OTK, the first thing you need to tutor is Blade of Selves (note; this only works in a pod of 4 players).

1.Swing with Godo equipped with blade of selves, Godo's trigger to untap for a second swing hits the stack. Two token copies of godo enter and die immediately to the legendary rule, but gives you two more tutors. Grab Hammer of Nazahn and protection (Swiftfoot Boots). Since you grab Hammer first, it equips to godo first, then the hammer sees the boots, also equipping. Then godo untaps. (5 Damage)

2.Swing again. This time grabbing double strike (Fireshrieker) and something to abuse like Bloodforged Battle-Axe. On the first strike of damage, bloodforged makes a copy that will equip to Godo before the second strike (7 more damage). Then the second strike makes two more copies, both equipping (9 more damage).

(5+7+9=21. Lethal commander damage)

In one turn, Godo went from a 3/3 with myriad to a 13/3 with indestructible, hexproof, double strike. Also having Lethal on both other players for your next turn.

By running anything I can that gives an extra turn for cheap mana (Final Fortune/Second Chance/Warrior's Oath), it gives me the best chance to limit opportunity for responses and to kill all the players.

By playing mono red, my interaction is limited. Pyroblast and Red Elemental Blast are limited to blue spells, and Conqueror's Flail only prevents spells, not abilities on the field. Depending on board state you might need protection to get through blockers. I only run Sword of Fire and Ice and Sword of Feast and Famine. Their abilities are useful outside of the colour protection. If you don't have the mana to cast an extra turn spell feast and famine's untap can help.

I have tried coming up with other ways to kill faster, but with the plan I'm using and the equipment I don't think there is a way I can kill 3 players without using extra turn cards, extra combats, or another card combination (when I say "faster," I mean in the sense of all 3 players in one turn, this can be executed as early as turn 2 or 3).

Other Important Card Synergies:

Strionic Resonator: If you don't have haste you can use it to copy godo's ETB to get another tutor, or you can use it to copy his extra combat trigger, with blade of selves giving 2 more tutors.

Scroll Rack: Since godo is a tutor on a stick, when he ETB's and lets say you have Hammer of Nazahn in hand, you can activate rack to put it back in the deck to get it on the field instead of hard casting it. Can also be used to get rid of any bad hand as godo's tutor will shuffle them away.

Sword of Feast and Famine+Aggravated Assault: Infinite Combats???????? Pretty straightforward.

Card Choices:

Lion's Eye Diamond: Maybe questionable ramp, but considering mono-red doesn't hold a lot of interaction and the entire combo is on the field, if it can be the difference between turn 4 and turn 2 godo it is worth it.

Treasonous Ogre: Turn 2 paying 18 life to cast Godo. Sounds bad, half your life for your commander? Doesn't matter when all your opponents are dead.

Brass Squire: For those times when you draw Hammer, sometimes you might not have the mana to equip it after casting godo, so it can be used to bypass that.

Pithing Needle: In my case, to prevent people from using cards like Tormod's Crypt to exile my yard in case to many things got sent there. Since the combo relies on very specific cards it't important that if they hit the yard cards like Scrap Mastery and Goblin Welder can get them back.

Dragon Breath: I'm surprised I haven't seen this card even in less competitive godo decks. Once it't in grave, godo will always enter with haste until someone exiles it.

Grafted Exoskeleton: I choose not to play it because the drawbacks on it being destroyed aren't worth it. Again I have tried to come up with a way using grafted exoskeleton to end the table faster, but since you need to use the first tutor to grab blade of selves and the second to grab hammer (for this to work, there is no give on that order), it doesn't really get anywhere useful since I can't get to lethal any faster than my original way.

I am trying to stay away from the typical big artifact equipment. I don't want to draw into them and honestly with how fast I can make it to 21 commander damage, things like Batterskull aren't really useful.

Any questions or comments are more than welcome.
