Small changes the next month —Sept. 21, 2018

The deck has been slightly updated. The next weeks it will see changes throughout playtesting, and the sideboard will be updated when the first results pop out from tournaments and the mothership. So tune back in at some point! Thanks for the views and the up votes!

To much high-cost stuff take out the goblins put more low-end creature's. That two drop mentor 2/3 is really good

Southland Thanks for the comment. This is a midrange deck, and therefore the curve is a little higher than what you would find in a aggressive deck. Boros Challenger is not the best creature since it doesn't help flip Path of Mettle  Flip. If I were to run an aggressive deck I would play Knight of Grace instead. It's going to be way better in post rotation standard. The deck could use some more cheaper rmeoval spells, but I'm waiting to see which answers are better depending on the meta. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I imagine you're running way too many lands. I think the big issue this deck has (and just R/W in general usually has) is it's lack of draw. Consider adding your Mentor of the Meek to the main board or a second Arch of Orazca for some much needed draw. Huatli might be a little under utilized compared to another angel, but I think she'll be fine overall. All in all a fun deck list I think if you can get it rolling. That's an easy +1 from me.

For new card suggestions, Sarkhan's Unsealing could add some extra bang to the entrance of your biggest angels. Ajani, Adversary of Tyrants assists your little guys and mentors. I think if we're looking at pure fun, I think the Weatherlight is a blast to play with in Midrange and it'll help you get Aurelia and Lyra super quick, and it can be piloted easily enough by your setup's 3 drops.

Everything passed this is kinda safe to ignore if you're happy with your deck as Midrange. While it's kind of a moot point since you're not aggro, I agree with Southland in that Boros Challenger has potential, but if you're dead set on triggering Path of Mettle, consider Sunhome Stalwart. Knight of Grace is good and pretty darn cool, and it doesn't die to black removal or Vraska, Golgari Queen but it's not going to help push the game for you or synergize with Aurelia.

Lastly, I think your deck lends itself really well to a Tempo build with your current costs. Consider looking into Goblin Banneret, he can even Mentor your Angels if you give him a chance! Playing the Goblin or Healer's Hawk gives you a nice curve to play your angels into, and they're both great Mentor targets. It's not quite aggro, because you'd be playing them as filler creatures hoping to get some advantageous trades as your opponent burns removal on them. It's just a little more buffer room for you to sweep the game with your Angel Army when Resplendent Angel and Lyra Dawnbringer hit the board.

Obviously keep a look out for the new GRN cards, since Tajic, Blade of the Legion will be (probably) getting a new card. He maaaaaaaay be useful for you. :)

Hi DeadStrife. Thanks a lot for the comment and the up vote! It is great to get some feedback, even when we still are in spoiler season, so a lot can change.

I would like to answer each of your points:

I would not go below 25 unless I would cut two 5 drops. This deck and standard in general, you need to hit your land drops. This deck really wants to be able to play on curve, and at least be able to potentially activate Resplendent Angel at some point consistently. The deck does lack card draw. Losing Chandra, Torch of Defiance really hurts this deck, and I have considered many different options, and Mentor of the Meek could come into the mainboard, but I think it would hurt the overall gameplay game 1. Huatli, Warrior Poet is just a bit of testing and for fun. Ideally she would be the new Tajic ! Or Ajani, Adversary of Tyrants, but you would need to play 8-12 two drops for him to shine. Weatherlight is sweet! Always wanted that card to work, but is a little slow. Abrade not being in standard anymore might make it work. Sarkhan's Unsealing is a no-no. Lyra Dawnbringer is the only way to trigger the card, and to make it work you need to play much more higher end creatures.

The problem I have with Boros Challenger is that the mentor ability lends itself to be better in an aggressive deck. The power level is a little low, and Mentor does not strike me as a great constructed ability you want to be build around. If you want to synergize your creatures and play with the mentor ability, I would play Goblin Banneret and Boros Challenger. Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice and Legion Warboss does have mentor, but I would argue that this a just extra topping, since we are playing them for the static abilities. As I told Southland,Knight of Grace is better. Also gets the trigger with History of Benalia.

I am going to change a lot of the numbers and the deck in general the next weeks to come. Still needs some testing, but it could be a fun deck to play at FNM. I tend to tune things and see how far you can take it, so please comeback in a bit of time and check it out again if you are interested. Again, thanks a bunch for the comment and suggestions!

Another thing I'm considering is adding blue to really spice things up, and make it as close to Jeskai Aggro we saw in INN-RAV standard, but Mantis Rider might be a bit too good for standard again ;)

Dismissive Pyromancer is probably something you want in this deck instead of the goblins. Card draw, removal and a creature on board at turn 2 is probably pretty good for your deck with all the high cmc stuff.

Patdypat Thanks for the suggestion. I have considered Dismissive Pyromancer. Not quite sure yet if it's good enough. It's a bit slow, but good in grindier matches. Might be worth it when we know the meta. Legion Warboss is absolutely insane, and I would never cut it from any deck that plays the beatdown strategy. It's basically Goblin Rabblemaster.

I will keep Pyromancer in my maybe category!

Hello, i guess boros should be consider just as an aggro options, far more viable than the midrange one, i mean, Ghitu Lavarunner, Haazda Marshal and going on to keep up the pace with mentor and then maybe using Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice as a top end curve. Just my 2 cents

I spaced out while reading Sarkhan's Unsealing apparently. I keep thinking it's CMC based, not power based, for some reason.

Anyways, I decided to peak back in now that the full spoilers are out and I'm enjoying the updated deck list! Justice Strike and the new Tajic, Legion's Edge are both pretty cool cards. I've come back with some new suggestions too, but these are mostly fun ideas rather than cards that will truly help you optimize your deck.

Response // Resurgence This card is conditional and can honestly be a dead card for you, but the fact that it can act as extremely cost effective removal or as a spell you can use to close the game out with is important. The first strike and vigilance it gives your creatures is notable as well for Path of Mettle.

Chance for Glory I want to bring this card up everywhere I can. I thought this card was horrible when I first saw it, but the fact that the Indestructible stays on this card is absolutely terrifying, this can fit snugly as a single card in a deck.

Divine Visitation turns your Goblins into Angels. I don't know what else to say about this card other than it's hilarious and that's amazing.

I don't recall if I suggested them and they're a fair bit slower than what you're playing, but Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, and Karn, Scion of Urza could do wonders for you. Teferi does demand you splash blue, but that also opens the door for you to do a lot you seemed to have been thinking of doing already. I think the cards we have in Standard lend themselves pretty well to that color combo if you decide to build another deck for it. And while Karn doesn't ulti as strongly for you as some other decks, his pseudo-draw 2 is exceptional here.
