Sideboard

This deck was legal around 2006 for standard during Ravnica/Kamigawa/9th. Edition. Once Kamigawa cycled out, however, the deck lost Promise of Bunrei, a major component to the deck. At the time, it was a powerhouse of combat tricks, since combat damage went on the stack. It wasn't hard to have a large Nantuko Husk appear out of nowhere from Promise of Bunrei. Not to mention, a well-timed Orzhov Pontiff could wipe away a player's entire board by giving all of their creatures -2/-2, the perfect answer to Ghazi Glare.

The most challenging part of this deck was the mana base. Having lots of colored mana symbols, often in both black and white (see: Ghost Council of Orzhova), was problematic in a format where there was only Ravnica bounce lands, shock lands, and pain lands. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth would rotate in when Promise of Bunrei rotated out, and the Zendikar fetch lands hadn't been printed yet.

This was one of my most favorite decks I've ever played in the standard format and one I really miss.
