Ghave me some token pumping love!

Commander / EDH B/G/W (Abzan, Junk) Combo

Goblin_lord Score: 11

Description

This is my attempt at building around Ghave.

This is a token/combo deck wich can win in different ways. It can combo off or win through pumped tokens in the red zone. You can also get big mana and Exsanguinate the table

The deck features a Survival of the Fittest engine with Genesis and the Reveillark/Karmic Guide combo. It can produce infinite tokens in different ways, and can destroy every non-creature permant with Juniper Order Ranger + Woodfall Primus + sac outlet.

The deck may lack some draw so maybe i'll edit it later if it's hurting too much during playtesting.

card:Nomads' Assembly would be the only swap out I could recommend here, but that might be overkill...

Added 1x Beast Within Removed 1x Mortify Removed 1x Overrun Added 1x Overwhelming Stampede Added 1x card:Praetor's CounselRemoved 1x card:White Sun's Zenith

Kitchen Finks is meh, card:Nomads' Assembly would effectively be overkill.

Thanks for comments anyway :)

Dude you're really rich if you could afford so many expensive lands!

I play on MTGO so the cards aren't that expensive ;)

Blasting Station might be a good addition to the deck. Instant kill the the lark/guide combo and good with all the tokens you are making.

@Jahosephat17: As said earlier, i play on MTGO so the prices are very different from paper cards, for example Grim Tutor is $130 on paper and $3 online. If you want to build it in paper i agree that some budget cuts will have to be made.

@Flipazn212: Blasting Station could be used as another sac outlet and as combo piece i will think about it.

Personally, I would drop Razorverge Thicket and Graypelt Refuge for the new lands from Innistrad that are in your colors (Woodland Cemetery and Isolated Chapel ). Other than that, this list looks really solid. Props!

Yep luke, innistrad lands are on my want list, i'll try to get them as soon as they hit MTGO.

I'm not sure I understand the Juniper Order Ranger /Woodfall Primus combo....the ranger does not get you around persist...Melira, Sylvok Outcast would though.

And how do you generate infinite tokens other than Ghave, Guru of Spores , card:Ashnod's Altar and Juniper Order Ranger ?

I like this a lot though, I run a Green/White token deck, deck:tokens-r-teh-overpower that I'm pretty happy with. I want to suggest your ideas to my friend who has a Ghave token deck too.

You should also consider Gavony Township and Parallel Lives from Innistrad.

Goblin_lord says... #13

Juniper Order Ranger definitively get around persist, +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters cancels each other when placed on the same creature, so everytime your persist creature will come back with no counters on it.

The other option to generate infinite tokens is Nim Deathmantle + card:Ashnod's Altar + Grave Titan /Avenger of Zendikar /Hornet Queen

Parallel Lives will definitively find it's spot in the deck once Innistrad gets released on MTGO, i'm not totally sure about Gavony Township , i already run a fair number of non-basics and the ability seems costy, but i'll think about it.

You are correct and that is nice to know about the canceling of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters :D Thank You!

I'm very new to EDH (in fact I haven't played it yet) but I'm looking to get into it and to that end I'm designing a EDH deck that I hope to put together some day when I've convinced some friends that EDH looks fun. :)

I'm telling you this because I'm also making my deck around Ghave as a Commander, he just looks like so much fun! Thing is my decks looks pretty different from yours and I was thinking if you could take a look at it and leave any comments you might have? I'm not sure whether I'm not utilizing Ghave to his fullest or if I'm taking my deck into another direction that also works. I also have a "maybeboard" full of cards that I want to implement but I don't know what to cut to put them in. Any help is appreciated :) Here's my deck: deck:garden-of-ghave-looking-for-comments

+1 for Ghave deck!

I've heard good thing about Glare of Subdual but it didn't made it through he list while i was cutting cards, i'll maybe give it a shot some day.

Just a couple of suggestions. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite has worked really well for me in combination with Kamahl, Fist of Krosa and a way of eliminating lands and pumping your stuff. Kamahl turns the opponent's lands into 1/1s which then die to Elesh Norn's ability. The two of them would make good targets for Tooth and Nail. Protean Hydra could be replaced with Primordial Hydra , which works really well with Ghave as an engine for creating tokens and counters. I ended up dropping Decree of Pain from my list, but it did have its uses. How has it been working for you?

If you would like to, you can see my list here deck:grave-ghave

Hi, thanks for yous suggestions.

Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite she's bomb for sure and i haven't thinked about her synergy with Kamahl before. That being said she feels a little win more to me, but i'll probably give her a chance.

Primordial Hydra is cute but i think Protean is more suited for stupid combos.

Decree of Pain is bomb, it's massive card advantage and who don't like sweepers?

November 5, 2011 7:50 p.m.

SaberTech says... #21

Mass board sweep like Decree of Pain are great card advantage in group games, but they mess up your own board position as well. Selective mass removal like Austere Command are better options. Token strategies would rather not see much board sweep, and Ghave is a card you don't want dying too often if you can help it. When I ran Decree of Pain I was frequently reluctant to cast it since that late in the game I found that it hurt my board position more than it hurt my opponent's. I would generally wish I had drawn something more one-sided like Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite , Butcher of Malakir , or Grave Pact .

Cool deck Goblin_lord. Love the token horde you can get with it. Definitely +1ing.

I have a Ghave deck too but mine focuses more on +1 counters rather than tokens. I have to warn you that it is only my second EDH deck and definitely my first functioning one so any help is appreciated. I call it Fungus Humungus
