This deck is not entirely reliant and devoted to trying to achieve the Dakmor Salvage combo as fast as possible. I do not think this leads to very exciting/fun magic for anyone at the table and commander is actually meant to be about having fun...

Of course I run the combo; you'd be a fool not to, but this deck can do other things too! Crazy right?!

In 2016 I obtained a judge foil Crucible of Worlds in a $100 trade with an old magic friend (it used to be worth a little more :( ). A few days later, The Gitrog Monster was spoiled. Naturally I felt this was some sign from God, so I just had to start building a new EDH deck.

The deck started up nice and cheap, with mostly non foils and budget friendly versions of some of the cards seen in this list today.

Several years and a lot of money later, I find myself here... This deck is very much my favourite deck to play and updates to this deck are difficult to make...

Out:

  • Buried Ruin - wasn't getting the use I wanted from it.
  • Ayula's Influence - honestly underwhelming compared to other easier to cast discard outlets.
  • Grim Tutor - Not as good as Demonic Tutor
  • Hour of Promise - Just too slow! I've already got some of the lands I want by this point.

This section is a work in progress

Infinite dredge cycling with Dakmor Salvage + Skirge Familiar + The Gitrog Monster

Then Animate Dead or Dread Return back Lotus Cobra , Splendid Reclamation all the lands, and cast every spell in the deck!

Sacrifice some stuff to Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord then proceed to win.

Fail that, make infinite creatures by recurring Avenger of Zendikar then proceed to win next turn?

These are all cards I have either tried before, or those which I want to try but have not yet been able to acquire a pretty enough version to put in the deck... Change my mind on them if you can!

Creatures

Instants

  • Rain of Filth - Feels a bit limited with a 1 turn use and potentially screwing you over if you sac too many lands
  • Worldly Tutor - Potentially would use one in deck but not sold on more creature tutors...
  • Noxious Revival - Consideration but a little cute perhaps...
  • Harrow - Used this card for a couple of years but time to move over for new things.

Sorcery

  • Traverse the Ulvenwald - It's good, but it could be a little better...
  • Diabolic Intent - It's a good tutor, but sometimes you're only working with Gitrog Monster itself and you don't want to sacrifice it!
  • Raven's Crime - Perfect for the deck but doesn't really have much impact in multiplayer.
  • Grim Tutor - Not as good as Demonic Tutor
  • Hour of Promise - I used to play this but it always seemed so slow.

Artifacts

Enchantments

Lands

  • Buried Ruin - not enough artificats to make it worth it.
