I saw you steal the game in mtg muddstah's video and I thought it was brilliant! Great looking deck!

I was stuck on how I wanted to build ramos(i planned to go budget and play in Temur colors), but this convinced be to go with this. Looks super cool, thank you for this.

Can you explain the win conditions besides the one in the youtube video this linked from?

September 15, 2017 1:42 a.m.

Sure thing.

The general idea is to generate a ton of mana with Rude Awakening/Mana Geyser and use it on a big X-spell like Villainous Wealth or Debt to the Deathless. Alternatively you can copy Treacherous Terrain a bunch for tons of mana.

If you're desperate, Ramos gets huge and in a big turn of "going off" you can get him to lethal commander damage range and just take someone out of the game.

In my group, the meta is focused heavily on creatures to win games. There is also a noticeable lack of Stax decks. I took the liberty to change a couple cards here and there and added Baral, Chief of Compliance, Trygon Predator, Torrential Gearhulk, Kruphix, God of Horizons, Heroic Intervention, Etherium-Horn Sorcerer, and Tezzeret's Gambit. Is there another cards you could recommend for a heavy creature based meta?

September 15, 2017 12:11 p.m.

Just more board wipes honestly. Like I've played this deck before as Child of Alara and just having access to board wipes all the time really hoses creature decks.

I don't really see the need for Heroic Intervention, the deck works fine without Ramos or most of the other permanents (minus lands). I also would take any effect that's on a creature and stick it on a spell instead, like Trygon Predator is pretty replaceable with Krosan Grip.

Would Teferi's Protection be good enough to stall and take the game?

September 15, 2017 2:21 p.m.

From what I've seen in other peoples' decks, it's a very strong card and worth testing... although probably not worth $30.

Welp I got the precon deck so I got a little lucky.

Treasonous Ogre for mana?

September 20, 2017 5:38 a.m.

I'm not huge on the Ogre. Generally it can only generate 13 mana in the game, which does seem like a lot, but it does bring you close to the "blowout" range where someone deals damage to you in response to your big spell. Also since you really don't have much defense you'll often get pecked a lot for damage because either you're sandbagging cards or you're just open and people want their attack triggers/get their value out of their creatures.

Compare to Mana Geyser which costs one more mana, and often makes 20+ mana, not to mention it can get copied/recurred easier.

Yeah, I also use Mana Geyser with Reiterate as primary big mana source.

You might use Soul Conduit with Ogre to get mana AND screw someone up.

EDIT: W8! You don't run Reiterate? Its infinite mana combo if You get to 11 mana by yourself.

September 20, 2017 8:24 a.m.

I generally avoid the infinite mana combo. In past iterations of the deck I had it in there and every game devolved to me digging for it as much as possible and it killed the deck for me. I like to kinda just fly by the seat of my pants and do crazy things instead of "Oh I make infinite mana and kill everyone."

This deck looks cute. I like it. Any reason why you're not running fetches and shocks at all?

September 22, 2017 2:11 p.m.

Just didn't have them or the budget for them. They're the better choice so play them if you have it but this is just what I had on hand (plus I like scrylands in slower, control decks).

Thanks for uploading this list.

I struggled for slots and now realize that I may have been focusing too much on counter production for Ramos. Did you not include cards like Winding Constrictor and Hardened Scales because they are too reliant on Ramos being on the battlefield?

Any cards on the chopping block? I am trying to figure out some cuts to possibly fit in a Dragonstorm package.

September 28, 2017 12:52 p.m.

I just found Ramos to not even be that necessary but he's great when he's out. I've played the same deck with Child of Alara before and it's not really a big difference, Ramos just becomes great when he's out but not necessary. Like you don't need a ton of cards dedicated to him to make him great, and I threw one in (Corpsejack Menace) just for fun.

If you want Dragonstorm then you can probably cut most of the top end win cons (Debt to the Deathless, Villainous Wealth) and just focus on that as your wincon, although they're not nearly as reliable.

Saw the Video and completely fell in love with the deck! When i found the list here i was so happy to find out that more than 80 procent of the decklist is in my collection :D.Had a blast playing a big Villainous Wealth twice on the The Ur-Dragon player. I also added Torment of Hailfire and Cut/Ribbons as some Wincons. Its really a fun deck to play :)

Thanks! It's pretty easy to tailor to your interests, just choose whatever big spells you want and go ham!

Great list, I am working on something similar, but with a bit more creatures. Check it out http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/ramos-spellslinger-engine-1/ at this moment, what I am pondering is whether to play Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper and have some extra beater.

Have you considered adding in any Storm cards? Even just Tendrils or Grapeshot. Seems like you can build up a pretty monstrous storm count. Or do you find these aren't effectual enough? Or, instead, do you think they're just not all that fun?

November 5, 2017 7:23 a.m.

I already have a Storm deck that wins with Grapeshot and I didn't really want another one. The storm count also isn't big enough to be a serious win condition, like you could just focus on generating storm count and win but usually you only need to cast <10 spells in a turn to one (a bunch of mana generating ones and then your big X spell).

How do you feel about playing Dralnu, Lich Lord annd primal amulet ? I am trying to tweak my own brew and they seem to have potential.

November 17, 2017 11:33 a.m.

I don't like Dralnu in decks that can't really focus on him. Like he's a strong effect but the times you get randomly blown up by him are more than you'd like. Usually decks that have him as a commander or a central part of the deck have sac outlets for him or something similar.

Primal Amulet is good, I did add it to my deck too but haven't updated the list yet.
