Introduction

Hey there! Thank you for checking out my latest brew. This deck revolves around a combo consisting of 1x Composite Golem , Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and Mycosynth Golem. Feels free to skip past all the explanation and go straight to the combo. Ive always wanted to build a deck around Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, but not just the ridiculous body it provides, but also the ability to shuffle your graveyard back into your library. I started looking around, and stumbled across an old deck called eggs. From there I started to brew this list together and am very happy with the end result. This deck plays a lot like the old Eggs that was banned a while ago due to the games being less interactive than watching paint dry. I will try to explain this deck as best as possible, but bare with me as this is the first time I've done a description of one of my decks.

First I would like to say that this is a budget version to suit my own current budget, I am looking to make a non budget version in the near future.

Setting up the combo

The combo starts of a lot like Sram'o's, you will need to mulligan until you hit one of our card draw effects like Puresteel Paladin, Sram, Senior Edificer, or worst case scenario Riddlesmith. They are the most important part of the deck apart from our combo which I will get to very soon. I have tried only running 8 Card draw effects but I find myself Mulling to 5 or 4 to often. DO NOT KEEP A HAND WITHOUT ONE OF THESE CARDS, we are running no card filters like serum visions as they are to slow and we need one of these cards on the battlefield turn 2. If your turn 2 play was a Riddlesmith, play 1 or 2 of your 0 mana artefacts and start digging for Sram, Senior Edificer or Puresteel Paladin. We are not a storm deck so this shouldn't matter at all. If your turn 2 play was a Sram or Paladin, Simply pass the turn, or if you are very scared of targeted removal you can start playing your 0 mana equipment spells. Turn 3 can look a little different depending on our situation.

  1. Situation 1 - We have another one of our card drawers - If we happen to have another of Sram, Senior Edificer, Puresteel Paladin or Riddlesmith you should definitely play them, even if you first copy didn't die.

  2. Situation 2 - This is the most common situation, and is normally the turn we win - We play our third land, which should only be played if it is an untapped blue source (Ill explain), and then start playing our 0 mana equipment spells and start slowly drawing our deck. After having played a large sum of artefacts we will play any untapped blue source and play retract and restart the cycle. NOW COMES THE COMBO.

The Combo

Oh boy, strap in for some jank. You may need to read this two or three times.

Our combo consists of these 3 cards:

1x Composite Golem

1x Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

1x Mycosynth Golem

When we have these 3 cards in our hand we need to play up to 11 artefacts (Don't play more than required, you'll need these later to draw more cards) so we can cast Mycosynth Golem for free. Then we will play our for free as all our artefact creatures now have affinity. If we have not cast a Riddlesmith yet, sacrifice the Composite Golem and cast it with the mana it provided. Then we will play one last artefact then draw a card to Riddlesmith ability then discard an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. With the triggered shuffle ablity on the stack, we will sacrifice Composite Golem (If we havent yet) and have 1 mana of each colour floating. Then with our blue mana we will cast Retract (If we spend our blue mana casting Riddlesmith we still should have more than enough artefacts in our hand to keep drawing cards, this is why you should avoid playing more than 11 artefacts to play Mycosynth Golem) and start drawing cards again. When we have both Composite Golem and Emrakul, the Aeons Torn in our hand again, we will play Composite Golem for free again, then discard Emrakul, the Aeons Torn again, sacrfice golem and repat this process for infinite mana. With this mana we will cast Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and win the game. But wait, there is more! We can also instead of casting Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, gain some more mana and cast Sigil of Distinction for infinite and then cast Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and attack for infinite damage!

Sideboard

We are most likely to win most of game 1, but game 2 and 3 people will board in powerful sideboard cards like Leyline of the Void, Rest in Peace and Relic of Progenitus. The sideboard consist of a nice spread of cards for different matchups, and cards to deal with these powerful hate cards, like any sideboard should.

  • Against graveyard hate - Our Emrakul and Composite Golem need to hit the graveyard so it essential we deal with these cards before attempting to combo of. If you see anykind of graveyard hate () you'll need to wait until turn 3 to combo of. All our sideboard cards are 0-1 mana so we will still have enough mana to cast retract and win.

Vs Leyline of the Void - Rest in Peace - Relic of Progenitus - card:Tormods crypts - card:Nihil spell bomb

-3 Bone Saw

-1 Sram, Senior Edificer

+4 Fragmentize

Fragmentize is our most powerful card against graveyard hate as it hits all of the Leylines as well as all single use graveyard hate. And is also only 1 mana so we can still win on turn 3 with 2 Retract available.

  • Against targeted removal - Targeted removal can be problematic as is the only thing to potentially cause our downfall in game 1. Cards like Lightning Bolt and Fatal Push can kill our card draw engines before we get any value out of them. Of course in our sideboard we have access to Noxious Revival and Dispel. Noxious Revival is probably our best card as it does double duty for both removal and discard.

Vs Fatal Push - Lightning Bolt - Terminate - Path to Exile

-3 Bone Saw

-1 Sram, Senior Edificer

+2 Noxious Revival

+2 Dispel

  • Against affinity - Affinity is a deck that has been increasing popularity due to it performing well in recent tournament like GP Vegas (2017). Affinity can be hard to deal with on the draw if the opponent gets a good hand which can dump lots of artefacts onto the board turn 1 into a turn 2 cranial plating. Often at this point the game is over, but not many games will play out like this, and since we can win turn 3 quite easily, all we need to do is buy time.

Vs Affinity - Blue steal - Tempered Steel - Paladin Steel

-3 Bone Saw

-1 Sram, Senior Edificer

+2 Echoing Truth

+2 Stony Silence

More coming soon :P
