Black Zombie Deck: Friday 13 2.0

For some time now I have wanted make a zombie deck but I was always putting in the back of my priority list as I did not had much of a reason to make one, so I decided use this Friday the 13th as an opportunity to finally make one as well as include some cards with some kind of relation with the number 13 to make more thematic.

Removed Cards:

Akroma's Memorial / Altar of Dementia / Altar of the Brood / Cemetery Reaper / Crypt of Agadeem / Damnation / Doom Blade / Extirpate / Gnawing Zombie / Haakon, Stromgald Scourge / Murder / Sidisi, Undead Vizier / Waste Not

This is all the cards that were on the deck at some point but were removed. They may be included again if needed.

Sideboard Update (2.0) — Aug. 30, 2015

After ignore this deck for some time now I decided that was finally the time to complete it by finishing its sideboard. So after some testing with the cards on its maybeboard this is the result:

Cards added to Sideboard and reason:

  • 2xNantuko Husk mainly do the job of undertaker for Gravecrawler by sacrificing it and exploit its ability to be cast from the graveyard and turn this cycle into power for itself as well as fuel for other cards that benefit from creatures going into the graveyard.
  • 2xGrave Pact are now added to the deck help raise the punishment to my opponent creatures by exploiting the effect of the Gravecrawler + Nantuko Husk combo and all the other zombie cards that can be placed in the graveyard by Nantuko Husk effect.
  • 2xKorlash, Heir to Blackblade this creature effect kind of got my attention when it was suggested to me so I decided tested it and since liked the results I got after further abused this card ability using this deck capacity to get cards backs of the graveyard into my hand I decided that this card is a perfect match to it.

Cards tested but not added to Sideboard and reason:

  • Altar of Dementia after testing various sacrifice engines on the deck I ended up deciding that Nantuko Husk was the one that suited me the best so Altar of Dementia will not be added to it.
  • Gnawing Zombie after testing various sacrifice engines on the deck I ended up deciding that Nantuko Husk was the one that suited me the best so Gnawing Zombie will not be added to it.
  • Haakon, Stromgald Scourge is a creature that could potentially work very good in this deck as a big part of its creatures share a type that would benefit from his ability, but with his restriction of only be able to be casted from the graveyard and this deck lack of a source capable of place this creature there directly turned this card very incompatible with this deck and so was not added to it
  • Sidisi, Undead Vizier after testing it turned out to be an ok match in this deck but there was just too many cards more suited to the open slots available so I decided simply pass it.
