Welcome to a quick deck tech featuring Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury from the Commander 2014 preconstructed deck - Guided by Nature

Ever since the Commander 2014 decks have came out, I've always been fascinated with being able to pilot your deck using planeswalkers instead of through a conventional legendary creature. This often comes with its own list of advantages and disadvantages.

ADVANTAGES:

  • Planeswalker commanders are immune to creature based board wipes and hosers. (Wrath of god, Black Suns zenith, etc...)

  • Planeswalker commanders generate value every turn without further investment in resources and start working the turn you play them. They always get priority if they happen to not get counter-spelled meaning they always get used at least once before being removed.

  • Absolutely open to abuse with things that add counters like The Chain Veil and proliferate effects.

NEGATIVES:

  • Can't doge spells or abilities that deal direct damage. That opponent can redirect it to the planeswalker if that's what they wanted

  • Planeswalker Commanders cannot deal commander damage as a win condition

  • Being always accessible from the command zone, planeswalker commanders are not game enders with their ultimates

  • Current legal EDH Planeswalker commanders are only one color.

So why Freyalise out of all other planeswalker commanders?

  1. Green is well known for ramping up quickly, thus getting her to play as early as turn 2, but usually on turns 3 and 4. This is actually a pretty big thing because . . .

  2. ...Freyalise offers Mono-green decks ludicrous amounts of card draw in the command zone in a color not often known for card draw.

  3. Spot artifact and enchantment hate for when you don't have naturalize-esque card on hand

GOALS of the DECK:

Establish Mana engine and Card draw engine

Really. It is simple as that. When you have all the mana you can ever need to cast your entire deck, and you also have the ability to draw all the cards within your entire deck, you can then proceed to crush the opposition with an overwhelming board presence.

Create a board state of one million 1,000/1001 plant tokens? Exile all the cards in your opponent's hand, their entire board, and burn them for a billion? Sure! Vomiting out the deck once the engines are online is what this deck is all about. And this deck is somewhat flexible with how you choose to finish the game. My favorite wincon would be to use Cloudstone Curio + Karn Liberated + Ugin, the Spirit Dragon alongside a mana engine to allow for their planeswalker abilities to be used multiple times in succession.

MANA ENGINE:

A mana engine is a combination of cards used together that would generate as much mana as you need to cast all of your spells. Look towards combining these cards to establish such an engine.

And finally . . .

CARD DRAW ENGINE:

Having all the mana in the world would mean little if there is no outlet to spend your mana on. Therefore, having a card draw engine is like having the peanut butter to your peanut butter jelly sandwich.

A card draw engine is a combination of cards used together that would allow for you to draw as many cards in your deck as you wished. This is usually fueled by a mana engine as described above. In this deck, we only have a few options to enable this.
