Introduction

The fox is on the run and she's one clever girl.

Welcome to my cEDH primer for Zirda, the Dawnwaker

This list is a disruptive combo deck that seeks to establish itself early by either limiting our opponents resources with stax pieces or by creating a combo early to kill the table.

PROS

Zirda, the Dawnwaker is a main combo piece so we play very few bad cards

Comboing with Basalt Monolith and Grim Monolith gives us quick infinite mana without needing haste

By only needing 4 mana, 2 of which needs to be either white or red, we can go from no board state to a win allowing for "out of nowhere" wins. This allows us to use the first few turns to build a board state centered around stax pieces or finding our own win conditions.

CONS

Boros colors means our interaction with other decks is limited

Certain stax pieces such as Hushbringer and Hushwing Gryff can shut off some of our important tutors. We have to carefully choose when to play these cards otherwise things like Imperial Recruiter,Recruiter of the Guard,Ranger of Eos,Ranger-Captain of Eos,Goblin Engineer, and Stoneforge Mystic will no longer allow us to tutor for our win conditions. This is detrimental to our game plan as we have very limited other ways of finding our combo pieces. So tread lightly when playing these cards.

We're looking to set up one of two early board states.

The first board we're looking to set up is the one that pushes our main combos forward. Playing cards that tutor out Grim Monolith and Basalt Monolith early is most of the time going to be our first plan of action. If we have the ability to attempt and early combo win our play lines are going to be focused on getting ourselves to that combo.

The second board we're looking for is the stax board. This is our second course of action because not all our opening hands will allow for the first board state. All our stax pieces are cheap and efficient that also don't usually slow us down much if at all. This will help against more aggressive and quick combo decks.

Zirda, the Dawnwaker+Grim Monolith= Infinite colorless mana

Zirda, the Dawnwaker+Basalt Monolith= Infinite colorless mana

Heliod, Sun-Crowned+Walking Ballista X=2+ 2 mana, one of which is white=Infinite Damage

Payoffs

We need something to do with our infinite colorless mana to win the game

Walking Ballista= Damage out every player

Diviner's Wand= Draw our deck to find Walking Ballista as well as backup if it gets countered

Staff of Domination= Draw our deck to find Walking Ballista as well as backup if it gets countered
