Description

  1. This is a Rakdos deck that utilizes your graveyard, but also has a strong board. Sweet spot play is Footsteps of the Goryo to raise Flayer of the Hatebound.

Creatures

  1. Flayer of the Hatebound - bring him back from graveyard with Footsteps of the Goryo and you get to ping 4 right away and 5 damage at the end of turn. Plus you get to keep him as a 5/3 creature. Maga!

  2. Perilous Myr - When you attack with it you will deal damage no matter what. So it's your best friend in getting out ...

  3. Rakdos, Lord of Riots - I just want to smash people who have a not-modern-playable-cardlist with it! This demon also dodges some removals such as: Inquisition of Kozilek , Roast, Abrupt Decay and Dismember.

  4. Shriekmaw - Cheap removal, or expensive removal and exotic pet. It's all sweet either way. Extra sweet with Sin Prodder.

  5. Sin Prodder - My new favourite card! You get card advantage or your opponent gets damage. Enables you to pop out Rakdos Lord if he or she chooses damage. On top of that he is sweet on attack with menace. Looks good with Lightning Greaves. Other creatures are intentionately high cmc so that opponent will have a hard time choosing damage or discard.

Other Spells

  1. Faithless Looting - Keep what you need, and discard creatures for future Footsteps of the Goryo 's.

  2. Footsteps of the Goryo - Nom nom nom.

  3. Seal of Fire - Works to set up turn 4 Rakdos, Lord of Riots.

  4. Lightning Greaves - Sweet boots! You can protect something (Sin Prodder) or give haste to something that you just brought back with Footsteps of the Goryo. ***sweet scenario: you have 4 mana, Greaves on the battlefield, Rakdos Lord in your graveyard and Flayer in your hand. Footstep Rakdos Lord, equip boots, swing for six, cast Flayer for one red.

  5. Smallpox - My new favourite non-creature card! Some decks are straight away undone by this card. Overall should hurt your opponent more than you. Cast it when he or she has a creature on play and you don't. Extra sweet against Infect and Aura Hexproof.

  6. Pyroclasm - Ah' I love the smell of pyroclasm in the morning. Sometimes it's sweet to have a Perilous Myr on the battlefield and get to ping two extra damage.

Lands

  1. Drownyard Temple - Good to discard.

  2. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth - No harm in having x2 of these.

Had at least one playtest with this online and boy, is it fun. The value from Footstepping a Flayer is just too tasty! Admittedly I was playing against a mill deck and they didn't seem to have any form of removal. Not to mention them milling me helped me! Feels like the deck could be tidied up a bit, not sure what exactly, but the non budget options for the mainboard would be a playset of Bloodstained Mire and for the sideboard I feel like Leyline of the Void would be good alongside replacing Duress with Thoughtseize.

Agreed. Thoughtseize and Bloodstained Mire should be in the final deck. The final deck should also have three colors. Thinking about adding green or white, but I'm still searching for the right cards.

Green has a lot of options. Even going for Melira-Seer-Recap combo with Traverse the Ulvenwald as a tutor.

White feels good too. Atleast Athreos, God of Passage, Ashen Rider and Obzedat, Ghost Council would be intresting...

Yeah. It's sweet. Too bad there are no other good evoke creatures.

I might have a crazy idea here for you to try out. Snow Covered Lands, Skred and Scrying Sheets. These could easily solve one of Sin Prodder's greatest flaws: when he flips a land at the top of your deck. you would probably have to drop a few Rakdos, Lord of Riots for this to work, since the Sheets don't really work with his heavy mana cost... Goblin Dark-Dwellers could be a swap alternative... imagine casting that one Footsteps of the Goryo, or removal for free. Plus you have an bigger body for Sin Prodder to flip. I dunno, maybe it's worth testing. Finally, there is a new Eldritch Moon card that might be worth your while Chaos Reveler big body, devil, discards your hand, synergy with removal spells looks damn fine for me.

Cool deck +1 for me

Thanks for the comment! You raise a good point, DHWorlds. Skred would be sweeter if it could hit players.

I have not found flipping lands with Sin Prodder to be a major problem. If it puts a land into your graveyard you'll probably draw a non-land card, which is probably what you want after four lands in play.

There's not many cards that get good advantages from lands in your graveyard. From what I could find it's pretty much just Knight of the Reliquary an / or delve cards.

I'll definently give Goblin Dark-Dwellers a try!

Bedlam Reveler looks sweet, but the only value Footsteps of the Goryo gives it is discard your hand and draw three.

Cool Deck. Not sure if it would be better or not, but what about test playing with Desecration Demon instead of Rakdos, Lord of Riots?

Well it could be just straight up better. But Rakdos, Lord of Riots is part of the decks charm. I want to have high cmc creatures for Sin Prodder, and then possible cast them cheaper with damage and Rakdos, Lord of Riots.

For the 1,000th time ever Seal of Fire is a strictly worse Shock please run anything else but Seal of Fire, Shock isn't that good in the first place. But please run anything else.

Oh man, CheapDecks101, you couldn't be more wrong. If this is the 1,000th time you say this I don't quite know what we're going to do with you sir.

  • Can you cast Shock on turn 1 when your opponent has no creatures?

  • Can you cast Shock turn 2 with Pyroclasm to deal 2 damage to all and 4 to one creature?

  • Can you cast Shock turn 4 to deal damage to a player and then cast Rakdos, Lord of Riots?

...And if you're thinking that it's always better to cast spells instant speed at the end of your opponents turn - then I can tell you that this is not a control deck.

Shock is a strictly worse Lightning Bolt. Seal of Fire is more similar to Gut Shot, which I have considered to this deck.

Lightning Axe might be useful in this deck

cheap damage to creatures plus you can discard an important card to footstep later in the game
