The Flying Pummeler's Crazy Beatdown!

Standard Combo Competitive Energy RG (Gruul)

Zygomatic

Sideboard

Hi! This deck is still relevant in ixalan standard. It basically never loses to temur energy, and don't really have bad matchups. I almost always get 3-0 at FNMs.

Despites punishing people who are not aware of the pummeler combo, it steals a LOT of games after a surprise sideboarding turning into all in monsters.

Let's talk about my deckbuilding choices:

Servant of the Conduit instead of usually played Longtusk Cub, getting rid of mana death is strong and they are the same chumpblockers as topdecks while longtusk doesn't give energy etb to enable the combo. The cub is strong if the opponent cannot trade it early but does more harm than good if he can.

Three flings. Not one, not two, three. It ends games so quickly with that many pumping creatures. And it allows to get the kill with only a half pumped pummeled, with hydras, or against heavy healing opponents. It basically turns any creature with trample into a finisher and go especially well with combat tricks (attackin -boom-, fling -doubleboom-)

And now, a little sideboard explanation. When you feel that you can't win with the pummeler and the hydras, because of a countering deck or when you expect that your opponent will weaken his deck to include answers, just switch the pummeler!Lathnu Hellion is dumbly strong , especially when your opponent expects another threat, and it is very resiliant against the format's removals (Lightning Strike) and is bigger than any of ramunap red's creatures. The hellion activates rhonas, and can be flung when out of energy. It allows a crazy turn 4 kill if opponent don't play any creature or decides not to block: turn 3 play Hellion and attack for 4 damage; turn 4 Invigorated Rampage, attack for 8 damage, Fling your 8 strength creature, then shake your opponent's hand.

Hi, after playing in my game store championship (enough people for 7 rounds), i got some mitigated results with 4-3.

I crushed a BR aggro deck and a UR control at first. But I then lost against Temur, a first time in my life, because of only 2 non-lands in the first game and 1 land in the second, I guess this happens...

Bad luck didn't stop there because i lost against a RR pack, and a RG energy. It was always hell of short (not enough red mana source, or 1 turn short, when i didn't got flat mana-screwed. Bad draws all the way... ).

After that I won calmly a RG dino and a WUB tokens.

I barely slept the night before and it might explain some bad non-mulligan decisions, i think I had a lot of bad luck this day... I'm not still convinced of the need for the greenbelt rampager, although it surely would have helped in sideboard saving unlucky games by temporizing the early game and giving time to catch up a fine draw.
