Float Like A Feather, Sting Like An Angel

Commander / EDH Casual RW (Boros)

pumphry

Feather, the Redeemed is a fascinating commander, since she is one of only two or three Boros commanders that can generate consistent card draw. In commander, card draw and ramp are arguably the most crucial factors for a good deck. Boros typically struggles with both of these things but Feather removes the card draw problem using repeatable cantrips with its ability and then takes advantage of the creative ramp options that red provides along with mana rocks to maintain access to competitive amounts of mana.

While this version of Feather will never be a competitive deck, it can certainly hold its own at a high-powered table as a unique Voltron commander with a lot of resilience.

When playing this deck, you want to hit your early land drops, ideally play one to two mana rocks, and then get Feather out on turn 3.

From there, the strategy typically revolves around playing cantrips to keep your hand full and pump up Feather. You want to hold on to a protection spell like Adamant Will and the mana to play it as a way to stop opponents from taking down your Voltron commander.

At this point (usually turn 5) it's time to start considering what win condition you are going for.

There are two primary win conditions in this deck:

  1. Voltron damage with Feather, relying on repeatable pump spells and equipment buffs.

  2. Storming off with one of our three storm enablers - Aetherflux Reservoir , Aria of Flame , and Sentinel Tower . Aria of Flame is the best one to play in the first 4 to 5 turns and then after that Aetherflux Reservoir is the ideal pick thanks to its life gain ability.

  • Having at least one red and white mana source that you can play in your opening hand is essential. Mulligan if you don't.
  • Unless you have a very high quality starting hand you should also be looking to mulligan if you don't have a cantrip.
  • If you have a board wipe in your opening hand and sufficient mana sources but lack quality cards this is also an ok start as the board wipe will give you time to draw into strong pieces.
