Godhood through death

Not sure what is going on with the markdown syntax but my description was working perfectly then one day it went bonkers and I haven't been able to figure out how to fix it...

>The main focus of this strategy is to get out a creature with some sort of evasion (unblockable, shadow, protection, trample, flying, etc.), scavenge some big dudes onto it and turn sideways. This is good for two reasons. I can have several threats out at once and it draws attention away from Varolz. The main creatures for this strategy include: > - Kalonian Hydra (Trample) - Nether Traitor (Shadow) - Noxious Gearhulk (Menace) - Phyrexian Obliterator (Trample) - Primordial Hydra (Trample) - Sheoldred, Whispering One (Swampwalk) - Siege Behemoth (Unblockable) - Silhana Ledgewalker (Flying) - Treetop Village (Trample)
>This one is like most other Varolz decks. Cast Varolz, scavenge big dudes onto him and go for twenty-one commander damage. If I’m going this route I’ll want some sort of evasion so Shizo, Death's Storehouse and Rogue's Passage will come in handy.
>There are three infect creatures in the deck each with their own form of evasion. Scavenge anything onto them and game over. Creatures include: > >- Inkmoth Nexus (Flying) >- Phyrexian Crusader (Protection from Red and White) >- Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon (Flying)
>This is more of a late game strategy. I sacrifice a massive Lord of Extinction or some other pumped up bro to Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord’s ability and nuke the table.
>These are all of my card draw and mana ramp cards.
>This is my removal suite. The most important card here is Krosan Grip. It is the only one that can stop a Relic of Progenitus or Tormod's Crypt before it ruins my day. I don't have a lot of removal because I don't have to get rid of everything that hits the battlefield. Only things that directly threaten my graveyard or commander get destroyed by me because my creatures will either over power or evade their creatures.
>The category includes all lands in the deck but listed below are the utility lands and uses for each. Keep in mind Crop Rotation can tutor these into play at instant speed. > >- Bojuka Bog against graveyard strategies >- Cavern of Souls when any player is playing >- Geier Reach Sanitarium when you need to discard cards to scavenge >- Ghost Quarter or Wasteland when you need to get rid of a pesky utility land >- Homeward Path when your opponents take your dudes >- Inkmoth Nexus for an easy win >- Maze of Ith to shutdown Voltron strategies >- Reliquary Tower if you just drew a bunch of cards >- Rogue's Passage or Shizo, Death's Storehouse for evasion >- Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth when you need more or want to swampwalk through with Sheoldred, Whispering One >- Volrath's Stronghold after a wrath >- Winding Canyons when you want to surprise your opponents with flash
>These cards are primarily here to protect Varolz and my graveyard at all costs.
>These are the cards I want to get into my graveyard and scavenge onto my WinCons. I’m careful to not put too many into my graveyard at one time because there is always a risk of the graveyard getting exiled.
>These are the cards that will get me what I need when I need it. > >- Birthing Pod, this is one of the best tutors in the deck because it can be used to dig through your scavenge targets and end with a big threat on the battlefield and scavenge fodder in the graveyard. >- Fauna Shaman works almost the exact same but you can skip some steps and activate at instant speed. >- Buried Alive, a very powerful tutor but it can easily be answered with graveyard removal. That is why I never search for my three best choices. I will always get the best, third best, and fifth best choices, that way it looks less threatening to my opponents and I can still come back if my graveyard is exiled at that time. I almost always use this exclusively for scavenge targets. >- Demonic Tutor, usually going to go for graveyard protection like Witchbane Orb or Krosan Grip. >- Entomb, almost always Death's Shadow or Phyrexian Dreadnought >- Green Sun's Zenith, if I have a threat out I'll search for a scavenge target like Force of Savagery. If I have corpses in the yard I'll go for a green threat like Silhana Ledgewalker to scavenge onto. If I have good board state I'll go for a win more card like Corpsejack Menace or Kalonian Hydra. >- Jarad's Orders, scavenge dude in the yard and a threat to cast. >- Crop Rotation, Sylvan Scrying, and Ulvenwald Hydra all serve the same purpose. Fetch a utility land when you need it. See 'Lands' section for details.
>These cards are very versatile. Corpsejack Menace and Necropolis Regent are essentially just win more cards that will double counters. Lotleth Troll dumps dudes in my graveyard while Scavenging Ooze eats other players graveyard strategies. Liliana of the Veil let's me discard scavenge targets or get rid of creatures.
>These are the cards I want to scavenge counters onto. Any of these cards pose an immediate threat and must be dealt with.
>This deck is geared towards multiplayer but it also fares extremely well in 1v1. To make the deck legal for Duel Commander replace Entomb and Sol Ring with other cards. > > >+1 Griselbrand, legal in Duel Commander > >+1 Mortis Dogs
>If you like this deck but don't want to commit to buying some of the more expensive cards, do not fret! I have recommended replacements for all cards that cost more than $15. The first step in reducing the deck price is playing non-foil cards and buying the cheapest printing if the card was printed in multiple sets. Next step would be to use basic lands instead of fancy full art Unhinged or Zendikar lands. Listed below are the cards in the deck that are over $15 in value followed by the recommended replacement card that will play a similar role in the deck. > - Cavern of Souls; Temple of the False God or City of Brass - Demonic Tutor; Diabolic Tutor (you can actually get the demonic tutor for less than $15 but if you are like me and refuse to play white bordered cards then you may want to make the swap) - Inkmoth Nexus; Plague Stinger - Liliana of the Veil; Liliana of the Dark Realms - Phyrexian Obliterator; Mortis Dogs (even better in 1v1) - Tarmogoyf; Lhurgoyf, Eater of Days, Leveler, or Myr Superion - Twilight Mire; Golgari Guildgate - Verdant Catacombs; Jungle Hollow - Volrath's Stronghold; Mortuary Mire - Wasteland; Tectonic Edge
>These are all the commanders who lost their lives at the hands of Varolz, the Scar-Striped and his mound of carcasses. > >I have not played the deck since I added this section and this deck is currently on hiatus.
> >YOU can be immortalized in this decks description FOREVER, all you have to do is feature the deck on the main page and let me know. > -Pal00ka** was a great help with suggestions. > >Image credit goes to shousuke0716, Deviantart.com; Hasbro; WotC
