Hi all! This is sort of a Big Red list for Standard I’ve been thinking lately. It’s funny how I first thought about this list listening to the North 100 crew talking about Big Red in Highlander. The basic idea behind this deck is to play Red, but not in the classical super Aggro/Burn “you’re-dead-on-turn-4” deck that has been present all over standard.
This is rather red deck with some acceleration and big ass Dragons and burn spells to control the board mostly, rather than burn the opponent. Probably one of the best Dragons in this deck are the Demanding Dragon, which are super efficient, and can come as early as turn 3. Other really cool cards are Lathliss, Dragon Queen and Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire, which don’t have an effect right away, but the effect they have if you untap with them is usually brutal! As for the early game, Dismissive Pyromancer helps you cycle through your deck, and can hold the board quite well.
As for the early game there’s some cool ramp cards such as Dragon's Hoard and Draconic Disciple and also Llanowar Elves. For the early turns I also added Soul-Scar Mage which is a 1 drop that has the opportunity to hit hard, and specially helps a ton against the Lyra Dawnbringer or Ghalta, Primal Hunger, which without doubt is a huge problem in the control matchup.
Finally, Sarkhan, Fireblood does everything you want it to. It lets you Rumage, and get different cards, and if you play it on turn 3. You’re getting 5 or 6 mana on turn 4, which is quite insane. And eventually, if you get to the ultimate, you just win the next combat phase!
