The only thing it likes more than discovering a pit of bones is adding to it.

Put creatures in the graveyard and boost Splinterfright so you can overrun your opponents.
When I first picked up magic in college, the internet wasn't really as helpful as it is now even though many Magic the Gathering players were asking the question is it worth it to buy product x. So when I finally decided to jump back in I did it the same way I always had, by buying precons and boosters and adjusting from there (man if I could do that over...). Well one deck I picked up was Grave Power from Dark Ascension. I enjoyed the deck, but as with all precons it came with a bunch of junk. With no collection of meaningful cards to choose from I just used some cards that I thought were cool to tweak it. My goal with this deck is to build around Splinterfright and Boneyard Wurm...
Ahhh Simic... I often think about how crazy it is that I started playing in the Ravnica block and now those precons are the names we associate with the 2 color combos. Anyways... the deck plays pretty straightforward; hopefully by turn 2 we either have Deranged Assistant or (preferably for the ramp) Dawntreader Elk to start filling our graveyard. Turn 3 we can get out a Brindle Boar and turn 4 hopefully lay down a 2/2 Splinterfright ideally with Wreath of Geists. In just a few turns Splinterfright will manage to fill up your graveyard and grow into a 10/10 with trample. If you get multiple Splinterfrights then it's just a matter of time until it's all over but the crying. I made sure to grab some spells with Flashback in case they get discarded and added Mystic Retrieval for things like Evolution Charm and Wreath of Geists which are both really good cards for this deck. Imagine casting Gnaw to the Bone to get back 10 life, then casting it twice more with Mystic Retrieval, and finally casting it a 4th time for it's flashback cost...
This deck can easily self mill, but I find you end up having enough power to win the game before that happens. If you are worried about it you can add a few Laboratory Maniacs, probably replacing Scourge of Skola Vale? Primal Rage might be a nice addition to the deck if you miss out on Splinterfright and want to give your Boneyard Wurm trample.

I've never had an issue getting the red mana for the Mystic Retrieval flashback cost. With 2 Izzet Guildgates we can use them for either or

As always I love hearing your thoughts and suggestions.
