Soulblade Djinn is Disciple of the Ring

61 Cards

I believe that 60 cards is too limiting, and really limits deck building abilities. Although I agree that it's more efficient, sometimes you just want to run that one extra card. In my case, I'm choosing to run an extra Dissipate. Either way, magic players get too absorbed into the idea that only 60 card decks are good. Look at fucking Adrian Sullivan. That man is my hero. This extra card has never hurt me. I get an extra counter spell and get to keep all my aggro. Tell me where this hurts me? It doesn't. This 1 card keeps my options more open, and I still get all the draws I want.

This deck's philosophy

I hate playing against control decks. Against aggro decks. Against midrange decks.

Why this deck then? Because I destroy them all.

I have enough early drops to deal with most of aggro creatures. Gudul Lurker can always trade with a Foundry Street Denizen. Stratus Dancer is a 2/2 morph or a 2/1 flyer. Shorecrasher is bigger than most aggro bodies, and can shift if necessary. AEtherspouts returns all their work to their hands.

I have enough control to deal with other Control decks. Just counter their big drops and counter their kill spells. Now this isn't gonna be a mirrior matchup, because I'm running 17 fucking creatures. Shorecrasher evades Bile blights, Drown in sorrows, and all removal. Gudul Lurker and Bident of Thassa can get me that card draw advantage I need. I can counter their win cons, and they wont have anything to deal with my aggro.

I have enough aggro to deal with Midranges, and I can counter their larger drops, or just straight up shift their realities. I can counter their kill spells, planeswalkers, etc etc, and I can just push through their early game.

Key Wombo Comboes

Bident of Thassa and the Sirens, Lurkers, and Thassa herself. I can just make things fucking unblockable, ping them, and get cards out of it. Wonder why how I can run more creatures than a control deck, but have more control of the board than them? This here bident. It accellerates my game hugely.

Master of Waves + Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx + Shorecrasher Elemental this here is the main devotion combo. As soon as I get Shorecrasher out, that's 3 extra mana Nykthos produces. 3 extra 2/1's by the Master.

Removal

I pretty much have AEtherspouts and Reality Shift. Beyond that, I just have to counter everything, or I could let it resolve and steal with with the Hypnotic Siren.

So always have mana to counter. Early game, always play the shorecrasher. But late game, you'd prefer to save that 3 mana to counter a Silumgar.

Round 1: Abzan Bolster; 2-0

Not that great of a deck. but showed me how hard first strike destroys the walkers. Plus my opponent couldnt draw his forests. Master of Waves ultimately took over\

Round 2: Mardu Midrange; 0-2

Lost game one due to holding back some things which was a bad idea as there is nothing to fear in those colors. A Siren stole a Thunderbreak. which was awesome.

A well timed murderous cut took care of the master of waves and won him game 2.

Round 3: BU Control; won 2-0

Game 1; omfg got out 2 Masters and spawned 15 tokens total. Swung in for 50 damage.

Game 2: Stole a Dragonlord Silumgar with a Siren. Had some doubts about those things but dayum are they amazing.

Lesson of the day: Hypnotic Siren is amazing
