Do you miss your Hollow One deck after Faithless Looting got banned in Modern? Well, this deck is not that deck, but it uses some of the same ideas. May I present, Faithless Survivor.
The main card in the deck is Grisly Survivor. It gets stronger when cards are cycled or discarded, which our deck is built around. It also has a bigger brother in the form of Horror of the Broken Lands, but that ended up a little too slow.
In order to pump our main creature, we have a few discard outlets. Faithless Looting and Thrill of Possibility help us dig through our deck to find our Survivor, as well as pumping her when she's out. Cathartic Reunion is mostly for the large amount of discards. Street Wraith is also a pump/dig for a small amount of life.
Next we have things that are meant to be discarded. Basking Rootwalla gives an early blocker. Call to the Netherworld lets us retrieve a Survivor or Street Wraith from our graveyard for free; it makes all our discards a card less. Traitor's clutch in particular becomes cheaper this way.
Once Survivor is large enough, Traitor's Clutch makes her functionally unblockable. Temur Battle Rage needs little introduction, and gets its ferocious trigger after only a single discard.
The ideal setup for our deck is to get a Survivor out, then swing in for a huge amount, shadow and double strike optional but appreciated. If this doesn't work out, then our deck has a backup plan in the form of Gurmag Angler. We only have three, because casting more than two is unlikely. But an early Gurmag is something many decks have trouble with, and our deck can fill our graveyard quickly.
The sideboard cards all help us against particular strategies. Most of them also involve discards or graveyard synergy. The exceptions are Duress, which is just good disruption; Pyroblast, which stops counterspells; and Electrickery, which clears enemy boards.
Still testing, so any feedback welcome!
