Welcome to Extreme Immolation !

You are looking at a Boros combo-burn deck. Its commander, Tajic, Blade of the Legion, is a 2/2 legendary human soldier with 'Indestructible. Battalion — Whenever Tajic, Blade of the Legion and at least two other creatures attack, Tajic gets +5/+5 until end of turn.’.

A discussion during Friday-Night-Magic amongst our playgroup, led to the conclusion that none of us had ever played against a Boros deck that did not rely on combat damage to pull in wins. Inspired by that, we did a search on the interwebs and came across a commander deck made by Oeselbroesel as well as several Modern-type Boros decks that relied on creatures that could inflict non-combat damage on players when they were damaged themselves. We took ideas from all of that and turned it into a Commander variant. We chose Tajic as our commander, as he is a cheap-to-cast indestructible creature, which is really helpful for the strategy that we want to adopt. We greatly appreciate feedback to any of our decks, including this one. Before you give any however, please take note of the following:

  1. Having fun at MTG, is more important to us than winning games. We want our opponents to have a fun time playing against us too. That makes it more likely people will want to play against us again. This attitude is reflected in the way in which we build decks. They do not need to be invincible; not even competitive. We are ok with decks containing infinite combos though, as they can produce some hilarious results. So well done if you can pull one off; especially if it is original.
  2. We no longer buy cards, but in cases that we feel a card really adds to our collection, we still trade them. This means that whenever you are suggesting a card we do not own, chances are slim it is going to end up in our deck. Please do not take this personally. Also, please do not let this stop you from making suggestions. Suggestions that do not make it into this deck, will still be mentioned on this page and might be used by others.
  3. Please do not forget to include the card(s) you would remove to make room for your recommended card(s).
  4. Please do not recommend any cards with infect or cards whose sole purpose is to destroy basic lands (non-basic lands are fair game). Our playgroup has banned them.

With that being said, thank you for all your support and if you should decide to use our ideas, have lots of fun with them.

We are out for a taste of hot fire! That’s right. The more of it that is directed at us, the better! Sounds a bit strange, does it not? Yet it’s exactly what our card selection thrives on. Saying it like that, makes us come across as a bunch of raving masochists. Fear not, we aren’t that weird. We intend to create a situation in which we can deal lots of damage. If necessary, to ourselves as well. That last bit of damage needs to be either redirected to a creature that can reflect damage, or compensated by some sort of life-gain. In some cases, this will result in infinite combo’s that will blast everything (except us) off the field.

If possible, we start by getting ourselves some rocks and ramping options. Our favourites include Land Tax, Arcane Signet and good, old Sol Ring. Should these options be unavailable to us, we will use filters (Sensei's Divining Top, Scroll Rack) or tutors (Enlightened Tutor, Steelshaper's Gift, Open the Armory) instead.

Next, we want to make it exceedingly hard for opponents to harm us, while we gather damage-combo pieces. This works best by getting an indestructible and hexproof creature with the ability to have any damage meant for us, to be redirected at it. We can create this situation by summoning Tajic, Blade of the Legion or Stuffy Doll and attach Pariah or Martyrdom to it. We can also summon creatures like Protector of the Crown or Palisade Giant and make them indestructible with Darksteel Plate or Shielded by Faith. In both cases, we finish by attaching Lightning Greaves or Swiftfoot Boots.

We finish the game by causing lots of damage to everything (including ourselves) or better yet, we do so through one of the deck’s many high/infinite damage combos.

  • Alms Collector; we decided to opt for some more tutor cards instead of this.
  • Spiteful Sliver/Truefire Captain; we are still debating amongst ourselves whether to switch out one of our damage cards for this one.
  • Smothering Tithe; have not really needed this yet, we always seem to have the mana we need to make our plays.
  • Inferno/Star of Extinction; great cards as large damage enablers in this deck, but a bit expensive to cast and for the combos we often only need a little damage to set them off.
  • General's Regalia; nice in this deck, but the three mana we would need to use it each time is better served elsewhere.

Infinite Damage Combos

We can deal damage to our creatures (or ourselves if need be) through the use of cards like Ancient Tomb, Blasphemous Act, Chain Reaction, Manabarbs, Pyrohemia, Price of Progress, Volcanic Fallout and Magmaquake.
