Khans of Tarkir Updates! —May 7, 2015

Finally got around to making the Khans of Tarkir block changes.

-Crucible of Fire, +Dragon Tempest

-Coat of Arms, +Dragonlord's Servant

-Dictate of the Twin Gods, +Atarka, World Render

-Ruric Thar, the Unbowed, +Dragonlord Atarka

-Dragonmaster Outcast, +Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury

On the fence about Dragonlord Kolaghan. On one hand her last ability's essentially useless in EDH, but on the other she's a 6/5 hasty flier haste anthem.

_Djanngo_ and Angelic, sorry for not replying sooner. I guess I never noticed your comments.

I originally had Mordant Dragon in here, but he wasn't too effective because he only deals damage to one other creature, and his firebreathing ability costs 2 mana.

Ruric Thar, the Unbowed is a great idea.

Lurking Predators is basically a more expensive Descendants' Path early game, but more effective later. I'll stick with Descendants' Path .

Usually this is able to ramp pretty well.

Thanks guys!

A little trick I like in these decks is to use Jarad's Orders . You use it to put Bladewing the Risen into your hand and any other dragon you like into your graveyard, then play Bladewing to get the second for free. It works well with Utvara Hellkite .

That is a cool trick Trollhoffer, but Jarad's Orders is a nonpermanent, which fights the synergy with Primal Surge . If it were more of a win con, I would add it, but it just just sets up a cool interaction.

Thanks for the comment and suggestion!

Lux Cannon looks rather non-synergistic, and more ramp does seem like a good thing. Sakura-Tribe Elder perhaps?

Lux Cannon gets rid of a lot of things my other "removal" doesn't. It's the only thing not named Eldrazi or Steel Hellkite that can get rid of pesky noncreature permanents.

Whatabout permanents like Oblivion Stone as removal? Or Nevinyrral's Disk ?

If time isn't right to blow them, simply don't.

is there a way to cloudshift your entire field? I know it might not be relevant to the deck, but wimmel_jr got me thinking...

Not sure... there's Ghostway , but that's white. Gatherer search reveals Cold Storage (which I'm not really a fan of, it makes itself a huge target), Helvault (same reasoning), and Safe Haven (it's a land, could be more protected). Wonder if I'm missing any...

Achievements- "Unleashing Hell"-Using only Utvara Hellkite , have twenty or more dragons on the battlefield before you win.

Or you should put that in as an achievement-I did it while playtesting.

And you need an Ancient Hellkite in here. It is incomplete without my little Hellsie.

March 23, 2014 8:57 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #21

Ancient Hellkite is slow and inefficient. I would use Forgestoker Dragon if I wanted a ping ability like that, because it has more value.

I wonder if something like Awakening Zone would be useful for you? Little minions to sac for mana would be nice with all those big dragons flying around.

March 24, 2014 5:56 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #23

Hmm, probably not a bad idea. Is there anything that you think I should take out for it?

March 24, 2014 6:41 p.m.

_Djanngo_ says... #24

if you want to take in, awakeing zone, take out the green medallion, just affect the curve for G, but gives you a minion

March 24, 2014 7:16 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #25

Many minions...

Dragon Shadow also seems somewhat unnecessary. Fear is nice, but that majority of your stuff has some combination of evasion already. It is on theme though.
