Introduction

This is my upgraded version of the Commander 2020 Symbiotic Swarm. With Kathril at the helm, I can finally play a viable Soulflayer-esque deck in Commander. If you like unique playstyles, big beaters, and reading cards with lots of text, this might be the deck for you. This is a work in progress, both the deck and the primer. Please feel free to help and thanks!

Overview

your text here

As soon as Kathril, Aspect Warper was previewed, I knew I had to build a deck around her. When Kathril enters the battlefield, place a keyword counter on any creature you control. Repeat this process for each keyword, then put a +1/+1 counter on Kathril for each counter put on a creature this way. What is a keyword counter? It is the new mechanic added in Ikoria that allows keywords to be added to creatures via counters that normally wouldn't have said keywords. For example, Carnage Tyrant is a creature that naturally has trample and hexproof. This combination of keywords makes Carnage Tyrant a hard-to-remove threat. However with Kathril, Carnage Tyrant could also have lifelink, flying, or indestrubile, making it even harder to handle. Kathril makes every creature into a better Soulflayer, a card I've wanted to play in EDH for a long time. Listed below are the eleven keywords counters that Kathril produces:

  1. Flying
  2. First Strike
  3. Double Strike
  4. Deathtouch
  5. Hexproof
  6. Indestructible
  7. Lifelink
  8. Menace (not in the deck currently)
  9. Reach
  10. Trample
  11. Vigilance

As you can see, Kathril is missing the powerful haste keyword, but that is fine. Remember the part of the card that stated, “put a +1/+1 counter on Kathril for each counter put on a creature this way.” That last portion is when Kathril becomes a Voltron threat herself. With all of the listed keywords in the graveyard, Kathril becomes a 14/14 THICK doom machine. This is a one-shot kill due to double strike….and the rest of the keywords. Now, Kathril does require some setup. By herself, Kathril is an overcosted 3/3 for . This is the reason why most of the creatures have various keywords attached to them. For me, Kathril is a great mid-range commander with a unique gameplay style.

Some keywords are much better than others. Keywords like Flying, Double Strike, Hexproof, Indestructible, and Trample are the most relevant. The others are either more defensive or just not as present in the deck (looking at you, Menace). All of the available keywords will inevitably be in the graveyard throughout the game via self-mill, tutors, and creatures dying. Buried Alive is one of the best, if not the best, way to get necessary keywords into the graveyard so that Kathril can be utilized. To deal 20 more damage with Kathril, you will need seven keywords in the graveyard, one of them must be double strike. However, it is wise to use a certain combination of piles depending on the game state and prevalence of graveyard hate at the table.

  • Mana Dorks: Avacyn's Pilgrim, Elves of Deep Shadow, and Llanowar Elves
  • Eternal Witness: In this deck, Eternal Witness is essentially a tutor. With the goal of having most of my library in the graveyard, Eternal Witness grabs whatever I need reliably.
  • Fauna Shaman: Fauna acts as a creature tutor for both the hand and the graveyard. Fauna’ requirement of discarding a creature is beneficial for the deck. This allows me to pitch creatures I don’t want to play, such as Zetalpa, Primal Dawn, and grab another better-suited creature.
  • Hopeful Initiate: Training - Hopeful Initiate has plenty of utility for . First, Initiate gains +1/+1 counters due to the training keyword. Second, Initiate’s ability blows up artifacts/enchantments for and two +1/+1 counters. Note that the removed +1/+1 counters can be from any countered creature, not just Initiate.
  • Odric, Lunarch Marshal: Odric is a backup Kathril plan. With numerous keywords on the battlefield, Odric makes most of my creatures threats in combat.
  • Old Stickfingers: The thing I like best about Old Stickfingers is the pseudo-controlled way that it puts cards into the graveyard. Old Stickfingers only puts X amount of creature cards into the graveyard. Because of its low initial mana value, Old Stickfingers is a great target for Death Oasis. Though it works as a combo piece, OSF offers plenty of utility for a graveyard centric deck.
  • Torens, Fist of the Angels: Training - Torren has a new keyword that Kathril (or anything else in the deck) can fully break open. That's all fine because Torrens is great. Torren creates a 1/1 human soldier with training everytime I cast a creature spell. Thus, every creature played doubles up soul sister triggers. As well, the tokens will slowly get bigger, via the training, and produce more +1/+1 counters for The Ozolith.
  • Trelasarra, Moon Dancer: Trelasarra is a cheap payoff for lifegain. When I gain life, Trelasarra gets a +1/+1 counter and scry 1. This helps control what can be drawn while providing a large creature. However, I’m more interested in growing Trelasarra, sacrificing it with The Ozolith on the field, then doing it all again. Also, she is a cleric.
  • Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant, and Auriok Champion: These three cards are efficient life gain for a cheap cost. In a four player game, both of these cards will provide plenty of incidental life gain.
  • Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim: Deathtouch- Ayli is my preferred sacrifice outlet. She possesses a relevant keyword, can sacrifice creatures for lifegain, and provides Anguished Unmaking after 40 life. With a cheap cost of , Ayli is easy to recur and valuable at any point of the game.
  • Birds of Paradise: Flying - The classic low cost mana dork. With the flying keyword, Birds of Paradise is great early and in the graveyard for the remainder of the game.
  • Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim: Deathtouch - Elas is a combination of Blood Artist and Suture Priest stapled onto 2/2 cleric for . Not only will Elas assist in trigger all the lifegain effects, her second ability, which states each opponent, can help close out the game.
  • Elite Spellbinder: Flying - Thank you, Strixhaven, for printing the best version of Tidehollow Sculler to this date. For , Spellbinder is a flying 3/1 body with ETB hand disruption. I value the evasive body and the tempo of removing a card from an opponent’s hand.
  • Faeburrow Elder: Vigilance - Faeburrow Elder is here because it can tap for . This bridges the gap between to , allowing me to play the bigger bombs in the deck.
  • Heliod, Sun-Crowned: Indestrubile - Heliod’s indestructible is great for Kathril’s ability. However, Heliod’s purpose for the deck is to be deployed to the battlefield. This is because Heliod is another piece of the lifegain subtheme. Heliod gives another creature lifelink for the low cost . In addition, Heliod grants a +1/+1 counter when I gain life. This keeps my life total high while beefing up my threats during the mid game.
  • Karmic Guide: Flying - One of the best reanimation cards in EDH. Due to the flying keyword and the echo cost, Karmic Guide will only stay on the field for one turn then remain in the graveyard until necessary.
  • Lathiel, the Bounteous Dawn: Lifelink - Shoutout to SpecimeN87 for this suggestion. Lathiel complements what this deck is trying to do perfectly. By itself, it is a lifelink 2/2 that produces +1/+1 for the amount of life gained each turn. If unchecked, Lathiel can get thick quickly. Lathiel is a great support card due to the lifegain and counters synergizes in the deck. With all of the lifegain triggers, Lathiel makes all of my board a threat.
  • Orah, Skyclave Hierophant: Lifelink - With all the clerics and sacrifice outlets in the deck, Orah provides another form of recursion.
  • Resplendent Angel: Flying - Resplendent Angel creates a 4/4 angel token once per turn if I gain 5 or more life. With the many ways of gaining life in the deck, it is possible to trigger this ability every turn
  • Righteous Valkyrie: Flying - Though there is only one keyword, Righteous Valkyrie’s abilities are perfect for this deck. Righteous Valkyrie gains life every time another angel or cleric enters the battlefield, which is most of the deck. In addition, Valkyrie is also a +2/+2 anthem if I have more than at least 7 life more than my starting life total, which is easily achievable in this deck.
  • Serra Ascendant: Lifelink - This is a potential 6/6 link for . As well, Ascendant gets flying when it is a 6/6, which makes this one drop extremely dangerous. With the lifegain subtheme, Serra will be a bruiser option throughout the whole game and a good target for Kathril if needed.
  • Sigarda, Font of Blessings: Flying - Sigarda provides hexproof to other permanents you control. As well, Sigarda acts as a Future Sight for angel and human spells. This is a strong source of card advantage, as most of the creatures in this deck are angels.
  • Sun Titan: Vigilance - Sun Titan reanimates any permanent under when it enters the battlefield and attacks. A majority of my utility cards, such as Eternal Witness and Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim, are all under . With the previously mentioned cards, Sun Titan can loop these cards to grab whatever I need from the graveyard. Because of this synergy, Sun Titan makes a great Kathril target and is just a good support card.
  • Sylvan Caryatid: Hexproof - This is the best Hexproof target for cards like Buried Alive. Caryatid is a great low cost mana dork that can be played early and still have high value in the mid to late game.
  • Titania, Voice of Gaea   and Argoth, Sanctum of Nature  : Reach - Titania, Voice of Gaea gains 2 life when one or more lands are put into my graveyard from anywhere. Argoth taps for and can create a 2/2 bear token and mill three cards as sorcery for . Titania’s flip condition isn’t too rough to activate; four lands in the graveyard and own both Titania and Argoth on the field. Titania, Gaea Incarnate     is really the pay off here. Titania, Gaea Incarnate has vigilance, reach, trample, and haste and has power/toughness equal to the amount of lands I control. Though Kathril can’t use these keywords, Titania acts as a Splendid Reclamation and a massive beater.
  • Tymna the Weaver: Lifelink - If the win condition is attacking in , Tymna feels like an auto-include. Tymna is an aggressive draw engine with a keyword. With the capability of drawing one to three cards a turn, Tymna needs to be on the battlefield to help maintain pressure.
  • Archangel of Thune: Lifelink and Flying - Archangel of Thune has two good combat keywords, but she is here for another reason. One of the things about Kathril is that the +1/+1 counter created can only be put on Kathril. That’s cool for voltroning the field, but I want the rest of the team to be huge as well. Thus, the inclusion of the Archangel of Thune. Archangel buffs the team with +1/+1 counters everytime I gain life. With various ways of gaining life, Thune makes all of my creatures big threats.
  • Battle Angels of Tyr: Flying and Myriad - Without reading the bottom text, Battle Angels is a 4/4 flying beater that attacks everybody. Even if the myriad tokens don’t damage a player, this puts at most three other angel tokens, which will trigger all the lifegain effects. That’s almost worth the slot by itself, as that is 12 power punching the table every turn. Depending on the game state, Battle Angels can draw a card, make a treasure token, or gain life. Realistically, Battle Angel will provide a treasure most of the time, then a card, and rarely life.
  • Bruna, the Fading Light  : Flying and Vigilance - Bruna has two keywords and returns a target Angel or Human creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. Though she combines with Gisela, the Broken Blade   to make the powerful beater Brisela, Voice of Nightmares    , Bruna has plenty of viable targets to reanimate.
  • Carnage Tyrant: Trample and Hexproof - Carnage Tyrant is a resilient threat and an anti-control card. With hexproof, Tyrant demands a board wipe, which can be negated with Kathril donating indestructible. Due to his keywords, Tyrant is great both on the battlefield and in the graveyard.
  • Giada, Font of Hope: Flying and Vigilance - My goodness! Giada is the best angel tribal lord . Each other angel you control enters the battlefield with an additional +1/+1 counters for each angel you already control. Giada also taps for for angel spells. Regardless of the tap ability, Giada ensures that angels will be huge threats.
  • Oketra the True: Double Strike and Indestructible - Oketra is back with a new found appreciation. Oketra has a good combination of keywords for offense, defense, on the battlefield, and in the graveyard. However, Oketra’s activated ability solidified her return.. For , Oketra creates a 1/1 warrior token, which can trigger the numerous soul sister effects in the deck. I prefer abilities like this because I can fully utility mana regardless of the boardstate.
  • Sigarda, Host of Herons: Flying and Hexproof - Sigarda has two good keywords and prevents sacrifice effects from opponents. This makes Sigarda a preferred beater and a good Kathril target. Though Sigarda has the protective keyword of hexproof, I rather have Sigarda on the battlefield.
  • Speaker of the Heavens: Vigilance and Lifelink - For , I have a 4/4 angel token producer with two good keywords for an easily met condition. This card was intended for mid to late game decks, which is exactly what I’m trying to do. Because Speaker of the Heavens only , it is an easily recurrable threat.
  • Akroma, Vision of Ixidor: Flying, First Strike, Vigilance, and Trample - This is the less selfish version of Akroma. Each combat, Akroma buffs each other by +1/+1 per keyword. That is a great finisher regardless if I voltron one creature with Kathril triggers or if I’m going wide. Akroma is best friends with Odric, Lunarch Marshal.
  • Avacyn, Angel of Hope: Flying, Vigilance, and Indestructible - Avacyn grants other permanents, not just creatures, indestructible. Even though Avacyn has great keywords for Kathril, I prefer her to be on the battlefield for the support ability.
  • Elder Gargaroth: Vigilance, Reach, and Trample - First off, Elder Gargaroth is a 6/6 beater with 3 good keywords. That, by itself, could have warranted a spot, but this card takes it over the top. This pushed card can either create tokens, gain life, or draws cards when it attacks or blocks. Elder Gargaroth does everything I want for this deck and more.
  • Gisela, the Broken Blade  : Flying, First Strike, and Lifelink - Gisela is here because she is paired up with Bruna, the Fading Light   to make Brisela, Voice of Nightmares    . On her own, she is a good beater and a cheaper Baneslayer Angel without the protection.
  • Lyra Dawnbringer: Flying, First Strike, and Lifelink - Three keywords and an angel lord. There are plenty of angels that benefit from Lyra’s gift of the lifelink keyword.
  • Rodolf Duskbringer: Flying, Deathtouch, and Lifelink - Thanks, Jumpstart 2022 for another strong angel. Rodolf has essentially four keywords since he gains indestrubile any time I gain life. As well, Rodolf reanimates a creature from my graveyard for symbol:w/b with a mana value of X or less, where X is the amount of life gain by the end of the turn. At minimum, Rodolf can reanimate a if he connects. With all the life gain triggers, Rodolf can reanimate basically anything in the graveyard.
  • Zetalpa, Primal Dawn: Flying, Double Strike, Vigilance, Trample, and Indestructible - Zetalpa finally has a use in EDH. Like the Soulflayer decks in Modern and Pioneer, Zetalpa is the primary card that needs to be in the graveyard. This is because Zetalpa has five relevant keywords. With a creature with Hexproof and Zetalpa in the graveyard, all the needed keywords are available for Kathril to become a problem. As a beater on the battlefield, Zetalpa is not my first choice. Zetalpa is just better in the graveyard.
  • Removal: Anguished Unmaking, Assassin's Trophy, Damning Verdict, and Swords to Plowshares. strength is in the colors. These cards permit removal of any kind of permanent from the battlefield.
  • Boseiju, Who Endures: This is, most of the time, an uncounterable artifact/enchantment/non-basic land removal for . At its worst, Boseiju is an expensive Forest. Dumb.
  • Graveyard Utility:Mesmeric Orb and Reanimate. Reanimate recurs my creature threats from the graveyard for a cheap cost. Mesmeric Orb mills a card for each permanent that becomes untapped. For this deck, this is an enabler for Kathril and all the graveyard strategies. For my opponents, their decks get milled. Unless they are playing something graveyard-related, this can be harmful to their draws.
  • Ramp: Sol Ring, Life from the Loam, and Splendid Reclamation: Life from the Loam acts as a pseudo-ramp card and adds consistency to the deck. With all of the self-mill effects, there will be plenty of lands to grab from the graveyard. In addition, the dredge effects is any way to fill up the graveyard and recur Life from the Loam. Splendid Reclamation puts all of the lands I dredged into the graveyard onto the battlefield tapped. This adds another safeguard to the deck, making sure I hit my land drops.
  • Tutors: Buried Alive, Diabolic Intent, Enlightened Tutor, Entomb, and Vampiric Tutor.
  • Authority of the Consuls: For , I can slow down my opponents and gain life. If I’m playing , I want an “enter tapped’’ effect.
  • Black Market Connection: Here is the thing about this card; you can pay a various amount of life for different effects. BMC creates a treasure token for 1 life, draws a card for 2 life, and makes a 3/2 shapeshifter creature token for 3 life. With BMC, you mix and match the options or select them all. Within this deck, I’m gonna pay six life almost every time. Why? First, this deck gains enough life to offset the cost. Second, the shapeshifter tokens are all creature types. Thus, the tokens will proc Righteous Valkyrie.
  • Heroic Intervention: Classic instant speed hexproof and indestructible.
  • The Ozolith: Look, this deck creates keywords and +1/+1 counters. The Ozolith ensures that my creatures with counters retain their value after they leave the battlefield. Though it is a pre combat trigger and moves all of the counters on one creature, this artifact exponentially increases the threat level of my creatures if left unchecked..
  • Swiftfoot Boots: This equipment provides the valuable hexproof and haste. The haste keyword addresses the weaknesses of having to wait a turn before Kathril can start knocking out opponents.
  • The Meathook Massacre: This enchantment acts as mass removal, life drain, and life gain all in one card. Due to the mana cost, Massacre can be easily recurred for utilization of the drain aspect of the card.
  • Wrenn and Seven: Shoutout to TheBigWobbs for this suggestion. Wrenn is here for the +1 and -3. Wrenn’s +1 is a Satyr Wayfinder-effect, revealing the top four cards and keeping all the lands. Wrenn’s ability helps fill the graveyard for reanimation and Kathril’s ETB trigger. Wrenn’s -3 creates a large token with reach.
  • 10.13.2023

Wow, it’s been a long time since I've given this deck some attention. My choice of having only 32 lands in this deck was always risky. I think it was because all the decks I was mainly focusing on (Najeela, the Blade-Blossom, now Rocco, Street Chef, and Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief) were all low-to-the ground aggro decks. A lower land count is something those decks can get away with…kinda. This deck is not aggro; it’s mid-range. Therefore, I cut some cards that just weren’t needed. Mesmeric Orb is just another way to dump my library into my graveyard.

    5.9.2023 - Aftermath Edition

I prefer the card draw of Sigarda, Font of Blessings over Shalai, Voice of Plenty’s +1/+1 counter production. I thought about adding Metropolis Reformer, but I’m not sure what to cut or if putting Shalai back in is better.

    5.2.23

Vorinclex   and Sheoldred   all look good but I don’t know what to cut for it. For now, Faeburrow Elder is back in because creature ramp is valuable in this deck. Vanishing Verse is good, but Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim is better. I just want Roldolf Duskbringer slotted in. Though he has redundant keyworks, he has plenty of lifegain synergizes and reanimation. Worth it.

    11.28.22

Black Market Connections, in a way, is just a straight upgrade to Inspiring Overseer. For the same amount of mana, you get a 3/2 “cleric/angel” without flying, draw a card, and get a treasure token for six life. Six life seems like a lot, unless you have a deck that gains life like crazy….

    9.9.22 - Dominaria United Update

Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim is everything I wanted from Blood Artist and more. Death's Oasis had a tendency to mill over interaction that I want in my hand.

    6.22.22

Almost every deck that I’ve built with has Adeline, Resplendent Cathar in it, mainly because it is a dumb card. However, Battle Angels of Tyr is better in this deck and does essentially the same thing. Damning Verdict is a selective sweeper and won’t sweep my creatures most of the time.

    5.21.2022

I find it funny that Streets of New Capenna provided some of the best angels we’ve seen in a long time. Giada, Font of Hope is just too strong for an angel tribal deck. Inspiring Overseer is a cheap angel that cards a card in . I’m testing Wrenn and Seven over Satyr Wayfinder after it was suggested. Heroic Intervention is just better protection.

    2.16.2022

Boseiju, Who Endures is the winner of Kawigama:Neon Dynasty. At this point, I’m just trading land effects and I think Boseiju is a card I’d rather see most of the time. I think both Ao, the Dawn Sky and Junji, the Midnight Sky are very good in this deck. There are plenty of sacrifice outlets and both death triggers are great. I’m leaning more towards adding Ao over Junji first because of the card advantage and +1/+1 counters it provides. Junji has some competition with Karmic Guide for the reanimator, but it could be interchangeable, honestly. The Meathook Massacre functions in the same capacity as Damn, but has better utility with the draining aspect.

    12.29.2021

Hopeful Initiate replaces Knight of Autumn as the creature based removal. Though I lose an ETB effect, Hopeful Initiate acts as removal that I don’t have to hold in hand, grows, and is repeatable with less hoops in this deck. Auriok Champion over Dina, Soul Steeper because I rather have more lifegain effects.

    12.6.2021

With the addition of Crimson Vow to Standard, I’ve transferred some of my Standard lifegain strategies to Commander. Torens, Fist of the Angels and Adeline, Resplendent Cathar are my favorite cards from these sets because they are super aggressive. I switched this two cards with Skullbriar, the Walking Grave and Stinkweed Imp. Maybe some other Kathril players can change my mind, but I’m not impressed with Skullbriar, the Walking Grave at all. Like Managorger Hydra, Skullbriar gets bigger as the game goes on. Unlike Managorger Hydra, Skullbriar can be infinite clump blocked without any assistance. Yeah, it can hold the Kathril counters but I don’t rush to play Kathril and there are better targets. Removing Stinkweed Imp is probably the wrong choice because of its dredge ability. However, I don’t have too much of an issue with filling the graveyard when I want to. Old Stickfingers is in over Hermit Druid because it offers more control for what goes into the graveyard. Again, not sure if this is the correct choice, but it works for me. Oketra the True is back over Solemn Recruit because it has better utility and it is a better beater with all the tokens running around.

    11.22.2021

Prosperous Innkeeper is essentially a Soul Sister and provides a Treasure token. I cut Questing Beast to help lower the curve.

    10.19.2021

With so many clerics in the deck, Orah, Skyclave Hierophant just fits. I’m playing Solemn Recruit over Angel of Destiny for a cheaper double strike trigger.

    9.13.2021

There was an error in my decklist where Dina, Soul Steeper wasn’t included, which is now fixed by removing Bala Ged Recovery  . I like to give credit where credit is due so shout out to SpecimeN87 for this suggesting Lathiel, the Bounteous Dawn. Lathiel is a powerful support card, especially in Soul Sisters. Same goes with Trelasarra, Moon Dancer. At this point, the deck feels little greed on the mana base so I may have to cut something for a land or two. I’m also looking to add Book of Exalted Deeds at some point.

    6.5.2021

Wrath of God used to be in the deck. However, I never found a need to reset the entire field. The longer the game goes, the thicker my creatures get so resetting the battlefield doesn’t help me that much. Though there is an argument that single target removal is less efficient and card disadvantage, I only want to deal with cards that stop my gameplan.” GregariousG

Well, this was true until Damn was printed. This is flexible removal, both spot and a board wipe, in . Despark was switched out because I think it is the weakest in the removal package.

    4.30.2021 - Strixhaven Edition/Cleric Tribal?

Strixhaven introduced plenty of cards that could make an appearance in this deck. However, Vanishing Verse, Dina, Soul Steeper, and Elite Spellbinder are the three cards that stood out. Vanishing Verse is another great piece of spot removal. Elite Spellbinder is a cleric and a Tidehollow Sculler in one. Dina, Soul Steeper further weaponizes the lifegain in this deck. Resplendent Angel triggers easily and produces more Angels. I cut Grand Abolisher because this isn’t a combo deck. Yes, it protects my turn. However, it gets blown up as soon as I pass the turn. I think that effect is better for storm or combo decks.

    3.20.2021

For me, Sidisi is becoming too slow of an option, thus the change to Diabolic Intent. Despark is to add more variety to my removal. As for the rest of the changes, I keep missing my land drops. Maybe it is because I’m not a dredge/graveyard player or not. Either way, I adjusted some things for my liking. Karametra, God of the Harvest is a placeholder at this moment.

    2.9.2021

Even though this is a midrange deck, there were too many creatures for my liking. I think cutting Underrealm Lich for Linden, the Steadfast Queen is incorrect 90% of the time. Maybe it is the way I’ve been playing, but I’ve never felt the need for Underrealm Lich. With Linden, I want to push the “convert lifegain into counters” theme which allows me to be even more aggressive. This also justifies the inclusion of Soul Warden and Soul's Attendant. Though these two cards do nothing for Kathril, these soul sisters provide continuous lifegain and surgery with the multiple life gain effects in the deck. Surprisingly, Nature's Lore isn’t needed because it just misses sometimes due to heavy dredge and being a sorcery. Here’s the thing about Akroma, Angel of Wrath; Akroma, Vision of Ixidor is just better. Old Akroma is just a beater. New Akroma is a beater and anthems the board. I’ve come to the conclusion that it is pointless to run both. Sorry, Akroma, Angel of Wrath. You will be missed.

    2.1.2021

Righteous Valkyrie is just dumb. For, it gains life from angels and clerics and is an anthem. The more I review the deck, the more I justify the addition of Lyra Dawnbringer. I don’t think that Stonehoof Chieftain is bad. I think that Lyra plays a better support role for this deck.

    11.23.2020

Zendikar Rising and Commander Legends provided interesting additions to the deck. Cutting a swamp for Agadeen’s Awakening/Agadeem, the Undercrypt is a free switch. Akroma, Vision of Ixidor is made for keyword soup decks. Angel of Destiny provides flying and double strike and an interesting way to knock out my opponents. Nullpriest of Oblivion provides menace and acts as a backup Karmic Guide. I don’t need a wrath effect.

    9.5.2020

Leyline Prowler was always mediocre at best, even with relevant keywords. Leyline was and will always be a chopping block card. Here is the thing about Managorger Hydra; Hydra is good in theory. At best, Managorger comes down turn 2, gets thick because everyone is playing spells, gets the hexproof and indestructible keywords, and becomes a massive threat. That is multiple moving pieces to make an ok trampler into a problem. Elder Gargaroth does the same thing much better, much sooner. Put into the same situation, Gargaroth is consistently bigger and draws cards/gains life/creates 3/3 tokens. With all this in mind, Managorger is benched because it is too weak without major assistance.

    05.04.2020

After some playtesting, Knight of Autumn is just better for my playstyle. Though the keywords are good, I prefer the flexibility of Knight over Gemrazor.

    04.18.2020

I think Knight of Autumn is playable and quite good. However, Gemrazor provides more utility overall. Along with artifact and enchantment removal, Gemrazor has a cheap mutate cost and two keywords. Solemn Simulacrum always seems to get cut from my decks. Sad robot is still good. However, Vraska does the same thing and more for . That’s because Vraska has card draw and Abrupt Decay available.

    04.18.2020

Authority of the Consuls provides tempo and lifegain for . Though having a mana dork turn one is great for an explosive start, Mana dorks lose their value the longer the game goes on while Authority doesn't. Also, this deck isn't looking to win early. Heliod, Sun-Crowded is indestructible and gives +1/+1 counters anytime I gain life. This makes my threats even bigger due to the various forms of lifegain. Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim and High Market is my protection against exile effects. It took some thought, but I cut Urborg and Unburial Rites. I don't need enough to justify Urborg. I'd rather have the utility and just properly fetch my colors in the early game. As for Unburial Rites, I felt like it was the weakest of my reanimation cards. For my spot, I'd rather see Karmic Guide everytime over Unburial in my hand or in the yard.

    04.13.2020

Akroma, Angel of Wrath has lots of keywords, already in the pre-con, easier to reanimate, and just a powerful beater.

    04.13.2020

A few days ago, I was thinking about adding Fauna Shaman and Storrev, Devkarin Lich. Fauna Shaman allows me to discard creatures that I would prefer to be in the graveyard. I want Storrev, Devkarin Lich because it is a mid-range beater with trample and graveyard recursion. Thank you, multimedia for not only confirming my thoughts, but giving some great suggestions. Stinkweed Imp and Hermit Druid are dredge staples and added to the deck. To accommodate for Hermit Druid, I adjusted the mana base, which should have occurred anyways.

    04.08.2020

The Ozolith is made for this deck. Leyline Prowler was added over Paradise Druid for two reasons. First, it’s a mana dork with deathtouch and lifelink. Second, I found out that Paradise Druid’s hexproof doesn’t count for Kathril. Life from the Loam is it because my deck wants to dredge and make land drops. Is taking out Smothering Tithe the best choice? I doubt it. I’m still searching for ways to protect my graveyard and another double strike creature.

    Feedback

Thank you for visiting. Any suggestions and +1s are greatly appreciated! I read every comment and try to reply back to everyone. This deck is constantly evolving and it’s great to have other people submitting their input.
