An adaptation of my American Control for Esper.

|Game Enders|

AEtherling: This guy is absurd in regards to adaptability and versatility. Pump him, sneak him, exile him; he does it all.

Obzedat, Ghost Council : An annoyingly dodgy 5/5 for 5 that siphons 2? I think so.

Blood Baron of Vizkopa: Couldn't ask for a better vampire. This guy's pro-white/black is nuts and he's got a decent body. Oh, and let's not forget that lifelink.

|Support and Utility|

Dissolve: A nice replacement for Dissipate with a very relevant attached mechanic.

Far / Away : Great versatility in a spell and a modestly priced fuse cost.

Sphinx's Revelation: Need the usefulness of this card be explained?

Detention Sphere : What can I say? I love mass target removal.

Elspeth, Sun's Champion: slightly provocative moaning

Top 8 once again! Loving the Esper deck. I'm not exactly sure what place I came in, but I was in 10th going into Round 6, which I won.

(4-1-1)

Round 1 Naya Land Destruction 1-2

Game 1 I lost due to arriving late from work. Game 2 fared a little better for me, with me taking the win due to a lot of work by Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver and some Elsepth, Sun's Champion tokens. Game 3 was terrible and the player is an awful person. He cast Ember Swallower and made him monstrous in the same turn, putting me down to 2 lands with a Supreme Verdict, Sphinx's Revelation, and two Jace, Architect of Thought. Needless to say, I was out of the game at that point.

Round 2 Mono-White Wheenies 2-0

Game 1 I beat him down with Elspeth and a Blood Baron of Vizkopa. Game 2 I did the same thing. Even his 21/21 Gideon, Champion of Justice couldn't get through the Blood Baron.

Round 3 WRB ??? 2-0

I'm not really sure how to describe the guy's deck. It was basically a mix-match of some utility creatures of those colors put together. He was a relatively new player, though, so I understood where he was coming from. I think we all can, actually. Regardless, I won both games by playing AEtherling and letting him do his thing.

Round 4 Golgari Midrange 1-1-1

I'm not going to lie; I'm not too proud of myself for how this round turned out. Game 1 went smoothly, me just using my Blood Baron and Elspeth to win. Game 2 went more his way, him beating me down with a Scavenging Ooze. And now we come to game 3...

This game is the one in which I, hands down, made THE BIGGEST DERP IN MAGIC. EVER. Let me paint a scene for you: We've gone to time, there are two Blood Barons on my side of the field, a bunch of [[Lothleth Troll] on his. I'm at 42, he's at 11. It's turn four on his turn and I need to draw an Obzedat, Ghost Council. So I Sphinx for 3, not drawing Obzedat. Disheartened, I go to my turn, turn 5. I draw Obzedat. but in my childish jubilation and impatience, I attack with the two Blood Barons and THEN play Obzedat, leaving him at the ever-infuriatingly taunting number 1 in life. If I had, instead, played Obzedat FIRST, he would have been put at 9, pumping my Barons up to swing for lethal. I would have won, but instead, we drew. And from this, a proverb was born:

When you have two Blood Barons, always play your Obzedat first

Truer words have never been uttered.

Round 5 RB Aggro 2-1

This round was more in my favor. I did my thing, beating him with Blood Baron and Elspeth. Game 2 he took with a lethal Lightning Strike. Game 3 I beat him with an Aetherling. Simple round, simple description.

Round 6 Mono-Blue Devotion 2-1

This match was the only controlly match-up I had that night. Game 1 I won with an Aetherling and and Elspeth pairing. Game 2 he beat my face with Thassa, God of the Sea while milling me with Jace, Memory Adept. Game 3 was a little more tense, as he built his field with me only having a Blood Baron. The Baron was pumped, though, and I swung repeatedly, but he always blocked with a Cloudfin Raptor. Eventually, I needed to kill him, but that damned Raptor was in the way. So, in Yu-gi-oh fashion, I top-decked a Detention Sphere, cast that sucker on that pesky Raptor and swung for lethal, putting me in Top 8.

I just gotta say...
