Esper Mill

Modern*

Crecker2

Sideboard

This deck mostly focuses on Milling your opponent out. Black and white removal focus on getting you to later games so you can either Drownyard your opponent out, or finish them off with traditional mill spells.

Unlike Standard versions of this deck, it is necessary to have Mill spells in your deck, rather than simply running Nephalia Drownyard. This is simply because Land Destruction or removal is a much greater possibility in Modern than in Standard. Cards like sowing salts can ruin your entire win condition in one fell swoop, meanwhile cards like Tectonic Edge can prevent you from executing a Drownyard win.

Generally, you're going to mill them with lots of spells in the beginning of the game, before decks can get creatures out, and before control decks can draw into counters, or get mana out. After the first few turns of milling, the deck's focus generally switches to a defensive, control playstyle. Creature removal/board wipes are included so as to remove large threats, or remove many threats at once.

When facing decks which generally have a lot of creatures, sideboard in the board wipes. The deck contains only 5 counters, which are in the sideboard. When playing against control decks, sideboard those in for some creature removal, since you're likely not going to be very focused on killing off their creatures. Leave some creature removal in, obviously. At least 4, considering that many control decks run a playset of their finisher.

Once you mill a control deck's finisher, use Surgical Extraction to get the rest of them. When playing against decks which attempt to burn you out, focus on burn spells, as well. RWB control can be your worst enemy, simply because once you mill their finisher, they can still burn you out with spells like Lightning Bolt and Lightning Helix.

Throughout the game, use cards like Sphinx's Revelation to keep yourself alive and to draw into more answers and mill spells.

Most games are won with this deck by finishing a player off with several drownyard activations, while controlling the opponent's board with creature removal.
