Sunday Tournament —Feb. 10, 2013

At my LGS the sunday tournament was standard format so I took my esper list for a test.

I ended up going 4-0 and taking first place.

Round 1 Jund Midrange (2-0)

Round 2 Dimir Mill (2-1)

Round 3 Ozhov Exalted (2-1)

Round 4 Rakdos Aggro (2-1)

Turns out the match up I was most afraid of ended up being my easiest win which was Jund Midrange. The all star cards for me main board were Runechanter's Pike just stealing wins out of nowhere, Lingering Souls and Jace, Memory Adept. All star sideboard cards were Witchbane Orb that just shut off so much of my opponents deck and sideboard hate against me and on several occasions I managed to get Witchbane Orb down with a Jace, Memory Adept which soon locked up the games.

Potential changes I might make to the deck based on it's performance is that I might reduce the number of Jace, Architect of Thought down to 2. There's no denying that this card is a card advanatge engine for us and is another win condition if you manage to go ultimate with him but I found he was very lackluster and when I drew him I wished he was another wrath, counterspell or Sphinx Reverlation so he may be swapped out for an additional Terminus or Supreme Verdict mainboard.

I'd definitely put in some Tribute to Hunger over Devour Flesh . You get to gain the life instead of backtracking and letting the opponent gain life. It's only 1 more mana.

I love that the only new cards in mainboard is new lands and obzedat and only 2 dimir charm in sideboard

CrazedXenomorph Not much else really. I am debating on putting Duskmantle Seer into sideboard and possibly mainboard as a 1 of and replacing the Azorius Charm with Dimir Charm . The only thing I feel that was letting Esper superfriends / control down was the manabase which has now been fixed with Gatecrash coming in so at the moment I can't see much else needing to be put in. As the meta develops though I might need to lean more towards the new Gideon and additional wrath effects.

Obzedat, Ghost Council is absurdly powerful. Even as a one-of it could act as a secondary win condition. Also, Liliana of the Veil is really good right now due to the Bant Auras deck. You also might want to consider Tamiyo, the Moon Sage .

Cheers for the comment Eskimole!

I did have Tamiyo, the Moon Sage in the deck as a 1 of but I'm just trying out Jace, Memory Adept over her to see how it works out in testing.

Obzedat, Ghost Council was in here as a 1 of then boosted to a 2 of due to how insane he was but I think he belongs more in a 4 colour control deck where you can flash in instant wraths as he was making it tough to wrath when I really should of been. I think he deserves 1 spot main though and possibly another in the side.

Liliana of the Veil is looking more and more interesting to me now we can actually play her on curve into Jace, Architect of Thought turn 4. I'm sure she will warrant a spot in the main just need to decide where!

If you playing tokens, i'd suggest you take some Undercity Informer , it could help you mill a bit faster and block-sacrifice tokens against aggro...

Thanks Gadiner92, Undercity Informer is definitely food for thought. I will bear it in mind in testing!
