Each color in magic has their own iconic tribes (and their tribal commanders). White has Angels and Lyra Dawnbringer . Blue has Sphinxes and Unesh, Criosphinx Sovereign . Red has Dragons and Lathliss, Dragon Queen . Green has Hydras and Gargos, Vicious Watcher . But Black, despite having many awesome Demons to call its own, lacks a mono-colored Demon tribal commander that specifically reduces the cost of Demons or otherwise gives them a boost. Sure, if one wants to splash Red they can have TWO Demon commanders that encourage you to go Demon tribal ( Rakdos, the Showstopper and Rakdos the Defiler ), but it feels somehow wrong to need to splash in order to properly run this tribe while the other colors can go with one color.

Many demons double as removal by either forcing opponents to sacrifice creatures or by outright killing them with ETB effects. The best mono-black Demon commander to compliment this seems to be Ob Nixilis, Unshackled to me. You lose out on the repeatable tutor on a stick that is Razaketh, the Foulblooded or the immediate effect of Demonlord Belzenlok , but I believe that this version of Ob Nixilis complements what this tribe strives for: winning an attrition war by forcing other players to sacrifice all their creatures. On top of being a flying trampler that grows with EACH creature death Ob comes with built in library search hate. Any of the tutor spells spread across all of the games colors and any fetch land effects force your opponents to both sacrifice a creature (growing Ob) and lose a quarter of their starting life total.

It'll be interesting trying to balance the number of demons in this deck with the ramp/lands that is needed to cast members of such a high CMC tribe but this is still on going so I'll get there eventually.
