Campfire Story

Way back when, about a few months ago, I decided to make Niv-Mizzet. He wound up being dirt-cheap, and mainly a really funny, gimmicky deck that could hold its own against far more expensive decks than it. I was against upgrading it at the time, because I enjoyed beating people with a $30 deck. Eventually, I decided that it was time to upgrade it, and eventually, after shifting around cars, it became this deck today. Honestly except for the addition of the Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter combo, much of the deck's core has remained the same as it was when it was in the $30 iteration.

Summary of the Deck

The deck is basically the same as any Niv-Mizzet deck: combing out with one of the three cards that lets me draw out my entire deck, and machine gun opponents to death. It's not mandatory to combo out, as you can win just by wheeling multiple times. While budget is not much of a constraint anymore, this deck still remains cheap, since all the core components are less than a quarter.

Being able to afford more expensive cards due to having a more steady income, my restraint is mainly cards that aren't ridiculously expensive, like Timetwister .

As far as suggestions go, I'm all-in for making this deck very cutthroat, so infinite combos are always much appreciated!

The Usual Win

The three main cards to win with just Niv:

• Curiosity

• Ophidian Eye

• Tandem Lookout

These all basically read: ": you win the game." If there is no response. As EDH decks have a limited number of cards at their disposal, and I've been in 7-player pods before, what else should I do to win?

Dealing With Large Tables

Large tables are tricky, because you can only have so many cards in your deck. Here's how to kill off the rest of the table, assuming that you have your deck in your hand:

Cast Inner Fire , floating a ton of mana. Afterwards, cast Comet Storm for 40, and setting multikicker for however many opponents are left over. If you have any remaining mana beforehand, you can drop mana rocks to have blue mana for counterspells.

Other Important Combos/Cards

There is the well-known Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal combo, with mana rocks that produce or more for infinite mana and untaps.

• With infinite mana, you can cast Stroke of Genius or Invoke the Firemind to deck out or burn a person out of the game.

• With Niv on the field, you can tap him to draw and ping, and use Isochron Scepter to untap. Similar to a more elaborate version of Mind Over Matter .
