B/R deck where you use your opponent's creatures to fuel your own fires! There's nothing more satisfying than not only removing your opponent's stuff, but actually using it as payment for your own sacrifice costs.

This deck Opted for infinite-use, steady sources of enslavery (lol not a word) and sacrifice, as opposed to using single-use cards like Fling and Costly Plunder. This is because each interaction this deck makes requires both a card for enslave and a card for sacrifice; permanent, multi-use cards like Captivating Crew and Hazoret's Favor are key to making the interaction consistent enough.

a. Get a sacrifice outlet onto the field**

Hazoret's Favor, Hidden Stockpile, Yahenni, Undying Partisan

b. Cast enslave sorcery**

Kari Zev's Expertise, Wrangle, Hijack, Captivating Crew

*I ONLY want to use mind-control on a turn where I can also sacrifice the slave. Turn 3 is the earliest turn I can do this only with a combination of Wrangle and Hidden Stockpile.

c. Attack with mind-controlled creature**

*This is an important step. I want to attack with my opponent's creature before I sacrifice it, which is why Bontu the Glorified won't fit well

d. Sacrifice mind-controlled creature**

e. Profit**

This is the most important step. You need to make sure that everyone in the room knows you're a complete badass and that you make money from all that dank value.

Some cool plays:

  1. Making a continuous 4/1 cycle targeting Dread Wanderer with Hazoret's Favor and then recurring the Dread Wanderer to do it all over again
  2. Creating a 1/1 servo every turn with Hidden Stockpile and then giving it +2/0 with Hazoret's Favor, continually
  3. Surviving most of removal in the format that targets Yahenni, Undying Partisan by saccing servos and Raptor Hatchling
  4. Stealing someone's indestructible god (*cough cough Hazoret the Fervent) and showing them just how destructible their god is to my sacrificial altar

Show some love if you, too, love to take all which is sacred from your opponents and revel at the irony of the forced treachery of their creatures...

Bye, vampires! Hello, pirates!

This deck has greatly increased in power, allowing me to add in +3 Makeshift Munitions and +4 Captivating Crew in replacement for -3 Olivia and -4 Murder.

Optimization updates soon to follow.

Try adding Fling to sack their creatures and do some damage at the same time.

@Snivy__ Its really fun to play- thank you!

@Ryceratops1234 Good suggestion, however Fling can easily become a dead card if I don't have mana to cast it on the same turn with a mind-control spell. It has huge upside though, especially paired with Hazoret's Favor; I'll put in two!

Have you thought about adding some Bontu the Glorified for his sacrifice ability? It would work really well with this deck. And it combos nicely with Yahenni, Undying Partisan.

Phoenix9978: I like Bontu the Glorified but I found his "if a creature died under your control" ability difficult to use.

When I mind-control an opponent's creature, I always want to swing with it before sacrificing it. But because Bontu can only attack if something has already died, I can't swing with him if I want to swing with the mind-controlled creature. I'll do some more playtesting with him though!

Correction: I assumed Bontu the Glorified's gender in my last comment (I said he; Bontu is a she) and realize I assumed wrong, I am sorry I am such a cis bigot. My apologies

Ixalan is suppose to have white vampires, as if vampires weren't pale enough. Might find some cards to boost this deck.

Love the deck idea and i can't wait to test it out. Have you thought about Fling or Heart-Piercer Manticore? It would be really nice to take their creature, hit them with it and then throw it at their face.

Snivy__ says... #9

I actually built a version of this deck. Heart-Piercer Manticore was too much mana to cast on the same turn with the mind control

Snivy__ agreed; I never want to process to take more than 5 mana. These new cards from Ixalan Captivating Crew, Ruthless Knave , and Makeshift Munitions are a godsend for the deck

Made a similar deck in straight red The Witwicki Motto, there is one thing more gratifying - having your opponent brag about their stuff before you steal it.

You're right, that is horrifying - Yoink - Know the horror!

What do you think of Costly Plunder for some card draw?

Or Defiant Salvager as a free sac outlet?

September 28, 2017 11:41 p.m.

JakeBreake says... #13

Drakorya I appreciate those suggestions! I think Defiant Salvager will make for a better choice than Yahenni, Undying Partisan.

Costly Plunder is a bit too situational- I need to have the mana to cast a mind-control spell and have Costly Plunder in hand. However, I'm sorely needing card draw and I'm not sure Ruthless Knave is good enough card draw! I will experiment

SirMandorallen Sorry for such a late response- I completely missed seeing your suggestions!

I tried using Fling at first with this deck, but then started moving away from situational single-use cards like it and, for example, Costly Plunder because I would often be caught with these cards in-hand without either a creature to sacrifice for them or without the mana to steal a creature and then sac it. However, this deck has become able to deal much more damage with new Ixalan cards and 2 copies of Fling may find a place.

I also have a similar deck, and oftentimes run into trouble with enchantments. What card would you add to deal with enchantments? By the way, my deck is just Red and Black, though I've been considering a 3rd color.

Duress works well.

@Bluedawg79 I'd personally recommend splashing white to get fragmentize. With all the legendary enchantments running around it's been performing quite well for me.

Nereket says... #18

@Abubs i dont know about your local meta, but mine basically dont play the enchantments until they can flip them that turn so sorcery speed removal is dead. i do love the idea if i could find instant speed though.

October 10, 2017 8:37 a.m.

JakeBreake says... #19

Nereket very interesting; are the legendary enchantments really something I need to be worried about though? Seems like it takes more work than it's worth to try and stop people from using the legendary enchantments against me
