mtg, mtg cards, magic the gathering, gaming, geeks
Before this starts, my card funds are limited, but I am still open to any suggestion someone has.
Wow, this deck has changed a lot over time. With help from many people, such as DaGabester, thecrimsonchin8, Taytora, and mrbloo1848 I think that this deck has become decently competitive at my LGS, and I look forward to introduce it to the community. This deck is reliant on getting enchantments out and ruling over what ends up staying on the field through enchantments, and Vault of the Archangel 's wonderful ability on Lingering Souls and Sorin, Lord of Innistrad 's token engine. If I am able, I will end up stacking those fun emblems to increase my potential life gain and presence.
Cards Left to get for this deck:1x Obzedat, Ghost Council
To answer your Liliana of the Veil
question, think about what you tend to have in hand. Do you often have cards you don't mind discarding? Will the cards you be discarding be worth less than the one your opponent is potentially getting rid of? Looks like you only have 1 card with flashback, and no cards to pull others back from the GY, so you won't gain a lot of value in that regard.
If you simply need more removal (you plan to use her 2nd ability and then expect her to be dealt with), there are obviously better options.
Best combo ever... Liliana of the Veil +1 and Loxodon Smiter
I hope you mean if he uses her +1 and you as his opponent is holding a Loxodon Smiter .
either way, I can have her out, use her +1 then get a smiter, that I have in MY hand out, for no mana
No, you cannot. Loxodon Smiter 's ability said "If a spell or ability an opponent controls causes you to discard Loxodon Smiter, put it onto the battlefield instead of putting it into your graveyard." Your own Liliana of the Veil 's +1 ability will not let you put him on the battlefield by discarding him since it is not an ability an opponent controls.
Shit i forgot about that, thanks fo pointin dat out
Hey, your deck runs the same idea as mine! Mine is a little more creature-based but it runs really smoothly with all the low drops. Arrest and Develop
any reason you wouldn't add Ghostly Possession to be able to turn any of the many 1/1's with flying into a fog bank? or to even use it on the opponents big creature so it cant do damage and just block one of your little 1/1's?
It is certainly a worthwhile card simpsonism, but Vault of the Archangel already kinda does that, and it's harder to take away my land than a simple enchantment
I think that the Vault of the Archangel
is a very good utility land but sort of forces YOU and your opponents to sacrifice creatures for you to gain life. I would add maybe 2 Ghostly Possession
for the Fog Bank
effect. Quite frankly I don't think you have enough extort cards to bring your opponent down and hold back the opponent for a Obzedat, Ghost Council
. Anyways my suggestion is Blood Baron of Vizkopa
for life gain and high damage. Exquisite Blood
and Vizkopa Guildmage
for the infinite life/damage combo, which i do believe is legal although I am not quite sure.
Couple things, with my production of tokens, I am perfectly content with trading a 1/1 spirit for a bigger guy anyday.
With Blood Baron of Vizkopa , there is not a big reason to play him because by the time your opponent has <10 life and you have >30, its game over already and Obzedat syncs better with my deck. He gives evasion and a net of 4+life, depending on how many Rhox Faithmender s I have out.
The Exquisite Blood , and Vizkopa Guildmage combo is legal, but I have no intentions on using it outside of multiplayer because I view 2 card combos as not being fun.
aaawwww, i have a deck that literally stalls for those 2 cards then I Searing Spear to set off the reaction
Yea, I'm just not a fan of two card combos, I've been killed by the Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Triskelion combo too much when I'm a turn from winning
Either way, Vizkopa Guildmage has great synergy with Obzedat. Plus, I'd suggest cutting curse of exhaustion and sphere of safety. Ethereal armor isn't very good in this kind of deck because it fits better in aggressive decks. Insteaad, you should max out on blind obedience and lingering souls.
How is Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Triskelion a combo? Even if he removes all his counters he's still a 2/2 when both creatures are out, unless there is another card I'm unaware of that wraps it all up. I suppose you could Searing Spear your own Triskelion in order to deal 7 damage, but that's hardly an auto-win.
catcherinbaseball, I agree of its synergy, I just haven't thought of a place for it yet, probably after rotation. The whole basis of this to maximize enchantments for the Sphere of Safety , and I thought Ethereal Armor wouldn't be great either, ask Taytora on how many times it was suggested before I gave in, but it works well.
BuddyBlueBomber, you have Triskelion use the last couple of counters to hit himself, and he will always come back because of undying.
I dont think that Tithe Drinker is worth have in this deck unless you are planning to cast it late game and put an Ethereal Armor or 2 on it
Yea, I was thinking it may be better to replace Vampire Nighthawk after rotation, even though it will be hard to top the power of the Nighthawk
I've got to suggest Underworld Connections . It's served me extremely well in my Junk deck, and you can definitely support the bleed.
when nighthawk rotates out I dont think that Tithe Drinker is a suitable replacement because it only has 1 toughness. If you were running green and had Rancor you could turn it into a Spark Trooper but aside from that I dont think thats it's worth having.
It's in the sideboard Jp3ngu1nb0y
ya I know that feel bro
Well I was meaning it's worth mainboarding
But the upper hand versus control and midrange is worth it losing relevance against aggro, especially because with two mainboard you'll hopefully only see it in a longer game: like with control.
have to agree with xkaze theres are a lot of aggro decks at tournaments now and Underworld Connections is just useless against them
If aggro it's really dominant in your meta then I understand, but where it's mostly control and midrange, like where I play, it's a must.
Can't argue with that
Completely agree, but like you said, there are a ton of aggro and blitz at my area currently. Everyone wants a piece of the Burning-Tree Emissary ...
for me it's all about Thragtusk and Falkenrath Aristocrat
