Elesh Norn's Abzan Rites

Modern BGW (Abzan, Junk)

Izulde

Sideboard

Sorcery (2)

Enchantment (2)

One night, after playing a variety of Modern decks and finding they were too weak and/or just not fun,I googled Modern Budget Decks and came across MTG Goldfish's list. After scrolling the decklists and reading, I realized Abzan Rites fit me perfectly. So I created a modified version of it, based on the cards I had on hand, and some I picked up. The decklist isn't in its final version (I'm hunting for my fourth Blooming Marsh to replace Temple of Malady), but this is what I have right now. I absolutely love playing this deck, and in testing with friends, I've beaten two different takes on Death's Shadow. Obviously needs more playing and testing, but the biggest problem I have right now is figuring out a sideboard. I face Bogles pretty regularly (hence the Blessed Alliances), and there's a lot of decks in my meta where Kambal is relevant. I should note that despite the presence of some expensive cards, I'm a budget player, though I do have some expensive cards from earlier days (I have a Leyline of Sanctity, for example).

Before last weekend's tournament, I made the following change:

-1 Concealed Courtyard

+1 Vault of the Archangel

to test out Vault. It did well enough (especially in a tight Game 2 against colorless Eldrazi) that it's getting further testing. So far, I like having it - Lingering Souls turn into deadly blockers rather than just chump ones, or offense you can generate some really nice life swings, depending on your board state.

After the tournament:

-1 Unburial Rites

+1 Eternal Witness

4 Unburial Rites made some hands a touch clunky, and a lot of times, I would be staring at something like a Path or Abrupt Decay in the graveyard, wishing I had it back. E-Wit comes in as a one of to address that issue, or to have other versatility, depending on testing.

Loving the deck so far, as it's proving it can win and hold its own against decks far above its weight class.
