Electrostatic Rampage

Description Show

An aggressive deck that utilizes energy to make sure that it's threats and removal such as Longtusk Cub, Bristling Hydra and Harnessed Lightning scale well into the late game.

The Combo Show

The Electrostatic Pummeler & Invigorated Rampage combo is simultaneously the best and worst part of this deck.

While neither card is useless on its own, they are not that great either. Electrostatic Pummeler can be killed by a slight breeze unless you are willing to dump 6 or more energy (or a Blossoming Defense) into protecting it. Invigorated Rampage is only 4 trample damage that will not even save a creature in combat and opens you up to 2-for-1's.

The more obvious good points are that both cards are proactive and follow the direction of the deck, if Electrostatic Pummeler is dealt with it leaves behind a large energy reserve, if Electrostatic Pummeler is not dealt with you threaten lethal every turn and can steer the game at your leisure, and that Invigorated Rampage can lead to unexpected kills earlier than the opponent can or will plan for.

While not as obvious, the best part of the combo is that it can be sided out. As long as the opponent knows what deck you are on, they need to sideboard and play around you potentially having the combo lest they risk losing to something easy to prevent. This helps through sideboarding by having a deck now immune to artifact removal which is likely to be brought in. It helps when playing by providing you with the "Splinter Twin factor." They do not know if you ever have the combo or even a few Invigorated Rampages and need to continuously play around them giving you opportunities to deny them mana (so they leave open removal) and to capatilize on the mana you do have with hard to kill threats like Lathnu Hellion and Bristling Hydra.

It is correct to mainboard the combo and to plan on sideboarding it out nearly every matchup. The only games where it should stay are against decks that go wide and have little removal.

Current Decisions Show

The only cards that do not feel locked are the mainboard Shocks and Chandra, Torch of Defiances. Both cards are strong, allow for aggressive or controlling gameplay and are not clearly outclassed by anything in other than Harnessed Lightning which is already a 4 of. In the current metagame, I like these choices as they match up well against both Mardu and Saheeli.
