Creature (1)

Just a little Modern brew I've been working on. Been wanting to make a deck around Phyrexian Obliterator for a while now. Not making claims that this is a hyper-competitive deck, but it sure is a blast to play. I'll break down each card type and explain my choices below. This deck is still a work in progress so any suggestions are more than welcome.

Lands

Arena is a land that has strong synergy with Obliterator that is capable of winning games all on its own. Also great with Nighthawk in a pinch.

Eldrazi Temple is there to power out Reality Smasher and Thought-Knot Seer. Turn two Thought-Knot into turn three Reality Smasher is a very real possibility that can effectively end games with needing a single black source.

Scrying Sheets and Snow-Covered Swamps are there to filter my draws and to act as a mana-sink. Scrying Sheets can also work as a colorless source to help get the Eldrazi out in case I don't get a Temple.

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is in here to ensure that I can cast Obliterator on the curve and protect against getting starved for black. It has the added benefit of turning Arena into a land that can tap for mana. Any extra copies can be turned into Pack Rat fuel if need be.

Spells

Dismember one of the premier removal spells in Modern. Added benefit of being on-color means I don't always have to lose life to cast it.

Duress is really just a budget replacement for Thoughtseize or Inquisition. But it does the job just fine in most cases. This deck doesn't have a huge problem in dealing with creatures.

Surgical Extraction Very good from removing pesky cards from the game. Never having to worry about a combo piece the rest of the game is a huge relief.

Victim of Night hits almost anything in the format. Anything that it can't hit is easily hit my Dismember.

Wrench Mind is great for ripping apart their hand. Usually provides great targets for Surgical Extraction that Duress can't get.

Artifacts

Expedition Map helps work out the kinks in an admittedly clunky mana base. Being able to go get the Urborg, Arena, or Temple that you need is huge.

Lashwrithe Great include in mono-black. Turns Nighthawk from a pesky nuisance into a game ending threat. Equally scary when it's on Obliterator or Reality Smasher.

Creatures

Pack Rat great early creature that can be a useful mana sink in the later game with turn unwanted cards into more Pack Rats. Great against control. Sometimes you just run the Pack Rat train to victory.

Phyrexian Obliterator don't let Reality Smasher or Thought-Knot fool you, this guy is the real threat in this deck.

Reality Smasher Great creature on his own and terribly hard to deal with after you've ripped their hand of any removal. And if he does get removed, it's usually just to pave the way for Obliterator to steal the show.

Thought-Knot Seer is a decent body and goes with the theme of taking anything useful out of the opponent's hand. Not the biggest deal if he is removed, we have bigger threats just around the corner.

Vampire Nighthawk is incredibly useful against early aggro. Often is a lightning rod for removal. Which serves us just fine.

Maybeboard

Nyxathid seems like a stronger three drop than Nighthawk. With all the discard effects this deck has, it shouldn't be hard to get him pretty big. More testing needs to be done.
