Wow, the new cards that are coming are really something.

Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist is amazing on it's own as she effectively combines Nacatl War-Pride and Crawlspace effects, but this is also where Arahbo, Roar of the World will really shine as we can quite literally make one of our Cats into a Cat Champion with trample and +x/+x.

Seems to be a good idea to go for a more Kemba, Kha Regent style with more equipments now that Nazahn, Revered Blacksmith and Hammer of Nazahn allow you to equip things easily. Balan, Wandering Knight and raksha golden club work nicely if we do add in more equipments. Bloodforged Battle-Axe is crazy as well, even more so if you have double strike. Path of Ancestry is an absolute auto-include for any tribal really. Traverse the Outlands is going to be one as well, insane how it's pretty much a cheaper Boundless Realms.

Will have to rethink the entire strategy for this deck. Maybe build more towards an equipment / lifegain heavy deck.

I suggest taking out the dragon throne. It is simply way to expensive to get it to activate. Aura Shards is amazing. You waould also do much better if you turned some of those lands into mana ramp. You have no Sol Ring? In green mana dorks are also a thing.

The activation cost of the Dragon Throne of Tarkir was bothering me too, but it seems so good on paper! give it to Arahbo for a +5/+5 on all your other cats, and then give them another +x/+x (equal to their power) with his mana ability for some seriously amazing damage. But yeah it is a little difficult, I agree..

I forgot about Aura Shards actually, I have one lying around somewhere I think.

Some Mana rocks would help with the throne and other artifacts, for the creatures .. maybe, it looks like most is reliant on dedicated colors so the two colorless from Sol Ring for example would be a bit.. I'll take a look. As for dorks.. If there is a tiger or a cat in the art, they're in! if not.. alas.

Thanks!

I tried to make the throne work so many times with RURIC THAR!!!! because it does look good on paper but it never works. Something like Overwhelming Stampede would be better.

That's a bummer! I'll take it out. Thanks for the feedback.

Nice, that's a lot to go over!

I don't really want to go down the lifegain route, simply because my playgroup will decide that I am the main threat as soon as I pull out this deck at the table, and they will kill me before I even manage to gather enough mana for the commander. Sadly, they lack proper threat assessment - it's a real issue that has surfaced a few times now. I was already contemplating True Conviction, so I will keep that in mind and see if I can add it into the deck at some later point.

Nacatl War-Pride is indeed amazing, insane when the coat of arms would be in play.. I just, I can't stand the border! It's terrible.. ugh. as soon as they reprint this I will put it in, but till then, I can't. I will however get that Pride of Lions, and Prowling Serpopard, they add heaps of power and utility.

Cathars' Crusade is nice but works better in a token deck, will put it in the maybeboard for now. Gavony Township is a bit expensive to use, but the counters do stay.. and I think I'd rather use the mana for Arahbo or Jazal. It is a land though so like you said it's negligible.. will also maybeboard. I was already thinking of Asceticism and Privileged Position slipped my mind, it's slightly cheaper and covers more ground so I'll find a way to put this in.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions!

Hey there!

I am also pre planning a deck for this guy.

Star Sign: Leo

There are a lot of things to consider even before we have seen any new cards. One thing you should not overlook is that the two best shapeshifters (imo) are GW. Chameleon Colossus and Mirror Entity. Both of which fit with the big cat very well.

Im hoping they also reprint some old cats with new art.

@Enral: I've never really used Greater Good because I'm sceptical about the discard three card thing and whether or not I'll ever make my creatures big enough to benefit.. but I suppose in they were to die anyway then sacrificing them wouldn't matter much yeah, I just generally don't like discarding cards :x. I'll put it in the maybeboard for now, thanks.

@LittleBlueHero: Yeah there are a ofcourse a few more cards coming in the new deck so we'll have to wait and see, and I'm sure they'll reprint a few, and yeah hopefully they do give some new art! But probably not the nice ones, Brimaz for example probably won't get a makeover, I'd like to see new cards for Mirri and Jedit though. Maybe some others like ehh Mirri's Guile reprinted would also be nice.

I didn't even think about using changelings! Figured there were plenty of normal cats to play with, but this does seem interesting, I like the Chameleon Colossus in particular, will see if I can squeeze him in somewhere.

I'll take a look on your build as well, always nice to see alternatives.

im already running a arahbo deck at in my local edh-playgroup (with an arahbo as Proxy) and it performs very well. Regal Caracal seems to be totally broken with its lifelink ability. i finished several games with over 100-150 lifepoints, even against other aggro like Saskia from c16.

lifegain seems to be an important mechanic in here as it gives us enough room to focus on pure atk. i noticed that i nearly never declared any big blocks. im just doing the damage race.

Heartstone is a mostly forgotten Card for arahbo :)

Ooh interesting, that is a lot of lifegain, but your deck doesn't seem to be really geared toward that. so you hit 100-150 with Regal Caracal and True Conviction? that's quite a lot haha.

I'm not sure how Heartstone would help because it doesn't work with Arahbo, so you'd only have two or three kittens who would benefit. Arahbo's ability is triggered, not activated. That would mean it would only work with Temur Sabertooth, Fleecemane Lion and Jazal Goldmane.

oh you are completly right about Heartstone, i missed that Point. well, thats great anyways as it gives me a new spot for other Cards lol.

regarding lifegain. Regal Caracal and True Conviction are insane. both win you games as you simply run away (e.g. Pride Sovereign was able to hit for 8-10 damage each turn, so much life every round). to be honest i had 6 games with this list yet. 3 Players, enemies played Saskia and Oloro. one game i got Regal Caracal paired with many Little hitters, another game went crazy as i got True Conviction, Collective Blessing, Pride Sovereign and tutored for Regal Caracal.

what i have learned so far: lifelink wins you games. Pride Sovereign can win you games, Regal Caracal WILL win you games, same for True Conviction.

what i have learned too: control & fort Artifacts and Enchantments can be backbraking against this deck if unanswered. maybe i was unlucky with my removals and maybe i shouldnt have answered an Primordial Hydra with Beast Within while the Oloro-guy just landed a Propaganda in one game. most hated Card became Keening Stone as i lost 1 game to it as i wasnt able to answer in time...

Were these games 1 vs 1 or multiplayer? either way it's good to know! Oloro is a real lazy play -_-.. Saskia should have killed you though, the lifegain must have been amazing that game. I know my own Saskia deck (EDH Saskia's Warband) would tear this Arahbo-decklist apart if they were matched.

I haven't tested it myself yet but .. maybe some more removal would help. Ah then again, I do seem to have more removal in my list compared to yours, like Aura Shards or Enlightened Ascetic for example. But a good old Wrath of God wouldn't hurt much either since we can just Faith's Reward or Heroic Intervention.

Maybe I'll make a proxy soon.

all these games where multiplayer games. i dont like dual commander, even if arahbo is more a dual commander of course.

i just have checked your list, Looks fine. the Saskia i fronted was nearly stock, so oloro was the "real" thread. but at least our cats are performing much better than i thought.

im a pure Combo/control Player usually (Hands down for Damia), so i miss the hard control pannel in here. i Play Aura Shards in my atraxa and in my ghave edh... absolutly broken with Tokens and a great Addition.

i thought about some good old mass removals too as - like you said - we can safe our kittens for big benefit.

Arahbo, roar of the wild will almost certainly be banned in 1v1 EDH when he comes out. Like nearly 100% probability.

New spoilers today make me even more excited to play Cats... however I think I may need to build the new mirri on her own.

The new Mirri looks amazing as well. The art is really good from what I've seen so far, same for Nazahn, revered blacksmith. But it looks like they're really going for a voltron/exalted style 1vs1 combat with lots of equipment though, I'm not sure how I feel about that.
