D's - Standard Merfolks

Standard* Budget Merfolk

Merfolk standard deck. This is my idea of budget ( 30 bucks ). If you have money feel free to add the cards in the maybeboard. Any suggestions are welcome. If you like it thumb up! :)

U/B Control: 0-2 I was both time winning the early game but in the end he fumigate my creatures and won with Torrential Gearhulk. Tribal Dinosaurs: 2-1 I got very lucky, I have better removals but he manage to give me hard times with creatures with flying, that I can't counter well. Mono-black Vampires: 0-2 He had very good combo every match and better start. Tri-color Energy: 2-1 Whirler Virtuoso and his Thopters are a very big problems, once he keep put them is free damage

22 Lands in this type of deck always makes me nervous.

23 or 24 would be better, imo.

River Sneak and Deeproot Waters have such good synergy that zimwoukd run 4x River Sneak and 3x Deeproot Waters.

You don't really have any "bombs" at the upper end of your curve.

You could get away with that by adding more Herald of Secret Streams and more ways of putting +1/+1 Counters on your Creatures.

Stuff like River Heralds' Boon, Jade Guardian, Tishana's Wayfinder, etc.

That way you could slowly boost Creatures all game PLUS make them Unblockable.

Another way forward is to use Tempo in your favour.

This deck will give you the idea: G/U Tempo Merfolk

Feel like Metallic Mimic and Nissa, Steward of Elements might help you a bit.

Rishkar, Peema Renegade could also be of some use here! The KLD block has some nice counters synergy with some of the Merfolk ability! If you were willing to splash white Oath of Ajani also does this and has synergy with the Merfolk with "Prowess"

For a control aspect vs any token decks or aggro builds, Tempest Caller might be a decent sideboard...I really wish it had flash -_-

It's wonderful seeing merfolk in standard again!

Rather than you could splash for Winding Constrictor.

That does get tricky, though, because splashing for early game is usually a bad idea.

At least with Oath of Ajani you will play that fairly late to mid game.

Yea I tried at a control/merfolk based deck idea, I've still yet to completely test it though. The Nissa, Steward of Elements may actually work for the deck, considering she grabs more merfolks. Merfolk Simic Control it is basically the non-budget version of your deck. However, 100$ is still fairly cheap for a standard deck, competitive or not.

Verdurous Gearhulk is an excellent choice for a mid to late game bomb.
