pie chart Draw Yourself to Death

Modern Discard Mill U/B/R (Grixis)

MtaRidley

Description

Cerebral Vortex got me thinking. I don't like it when my opponents draw cards. Why not punish them for it? But wait, some opponents don't draw cards very often. Let's force them to draw cards, so my draw triggers can kill them! Yay! Muahahahahahaaaaaa...

Anyway, I'd like to make this deck playable if I can, possibly for a Grand Prix. I didn't want black in this deck, but it has a lot of draw/discard triggers. Please give me your opinion!

I freakin' love it. +1 and then some.

Do you really need the Megrim 's though, as you already have the four card:Liliana's Caresses and the 4 Spiteful Visions ? I am no expert at Modern or deckbuilding, mind you, but having 1/6th of your deck devoted to these enchantments seems a bit excessive when you will be killing them with Cerebral Vortex anyway.

You could replace those two with Burning Inquiry (risky) or Vision Skeins (smooth the deck out, and has a cheap CMC). Your call I guess.

Good call. Took out the Megrim s, plus Chandra Ablaze and Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind since they weren't really doing anything (even though I love those cards). Replaced them with card:Teferi's Puzzle Box, Font of Mythos , and Seizan, Perverter of Truth (even though I hate demons, it's basically a strictly better Bloodgift Demon ).

I think my only problems now are losing my essential cards to Reforge the Soul or card:Jace's Archivist and actually staying alive to pull everything off. Any ideas?

Okay, here's an idea, although a highly experimental one. Try swapping out the Reforge the Soul s for Wheel of Fate s. That gives your card:Teferi's Puzzle Box a chance to reshuffle your Cerebral Vortex es into your library so that you can draw them on your Wheel of Fate turn, and cast Cerebral Vortex no problem. You can also try reshuffling them in with See Beyond .

+1 really like the deck! My biggest question is how do you survive against aggro long enough to play out? There is almost no interaction and you don't seem to be able to go off quicker than the aggro decks you commonly see in the format. Very interesting idea though!

Love your take on it! You should check out mine Grixis Card Disadvantage, its so cool to see how different people approach this idea. It's right on the cusp of being there.

Appreciate it! I wonder if we're on oppsite ends of a spectrum that eventually melds into a hyper-competitive top tier deck. I'm looking to make mine gp worthy as well. Have you played your competitively yet? I'm interested to hear about how your match ups work out.

Actually, lately I've only done casual play, and my spin on this deck rocks the top winning decks People have...but no, nothing that I can bring to the big leagues yet

However, in my sideboard I do have more for draw, I did splash in a nekusar, and in that way made it more competitive, if that helps

Um, wow. So, I haven't touched this deck in about five years. I'm glad you like it! I suppose I can make an updated version if that would help?
