Game Day! —Aug. 14, 2016

In what is becoming traditional for my Game Day ventures, I got 2nd place. Turnout was relatively low, but there was stiff competition. I beat out White Weenies and Bant Company, only to lose to Esper Dragons in the finals, poetically enough. However, I mulliganed both games against Esper Dragons (1-land, then a 6-land), so I'm not sure how useful the information from that game is.

I feel like, while powerful, Shaman of Forgotten Ways is more likely to get in the way of your land-fetching spells than curve out nicely, or vice-versa. My suggestion would be to replace Natural Connection and Nissa's Pilgrimage with Beastcaller Savant as an easy way to curve into a turn 4 Dromoka with only 3 lands.

Partly using that addition to the mana base, I think Altered Ego could find its place as a two-of. Color splashes are surprisingly easy, even using lands that directly interfere... As long as they're just splashes, at least. It's probably the best way in Standard to deal with Brisela, Voice of Nightmares, as you can cast it for 5 and outmatch them in every way you can think of.

If you have room for them, two of Duskwatch Recruiter  Flip might be nice as a way to keep the pressure on if they've survived your mid-game. Also, Pilgrim's Eye might be a good way of getting your extra colors permanently, depending on preferences. It's a turn slower than hard ramp, but it may buy a turn or more as a chump blocker.
