Doran 1v1 Commander

Commander / EDH*

Maybeboard

1v1 Doran aggro-disruption. It's like Jund, but in colours that are actually good in EDH.

This uses the multiplayer banlist because that is what the stores in my area support.

I have three slots undecided, currently occupied with Tarmogoyf, Putrid Leech , and Skinshifter . The firat two are the best 2 mana beaters these colours can play. Skinshifter is very nearly as good as those 2. It hits like a truck with Doran out, carries equipment like a champ, and is still very good without either of those things. Fleecemane Lion and the new Rakshasa Deathdealer are both honourable mentions.

Things I want:

1) More cheap, versatile, instant speed removal Ulcerate and Murderous Cut are good starts but I really want to cut the 3 mana sorceries for better things. Doom Blade is very close to good enough, as is Ultimate Price but they miss too many powerful commanders. Diabolic Edict and Chainer's Edict are currently the two front-runners.

2) More good mana dorks Turn 2 Doran is the ideal for this deck, and Llanowar Elves (and friends) are too unreliable at producing the colours I need to make that happen. Untapped Green dual + Elf + untapped colour source of the third colour is not impossible but doesn't happen often enough that I feel comfortable mucking up my late-game with mediocre dorks.

3) More discard spells Despise , Castigate, Gerrard's Verdict , et al are fine, but the rate is not quite high enough on them. Mind Twist I have played in the past, but doesn't play nice with the pro-active game-plan of this deck. Mind Twist is only acceptable when it takes their entire hand (or their hand -1 card at the worst) and I can't accomplish that until turn 4 or 5 typically. This is often too late to matter against most competitive decks. It gets better the more mana dorks I play, but the current version of the deck in not set up to support Mind Twist.

Things that are worth running, but I can't find room for:

1) More Equipment Sword of Feast and Famine is the most likely to find a home. Curse of Predation is currently occupying this slot. Curse adds a ton of damage very quickly, makes my random dorks in real threats, and isn't as vulnerable to creature removal as another Sword.

2) More Tutors Specifically Vampiric Tutor, Enlightened Tutor, and Tainted Pact. This is fundamentally a fair deck, and these tutors have issues in fair decks. They are cheap, flexible cards but they are both card and tempo disadvantage. Tainted Pact is the exception, and with the current all singleton land-base it is essentially an instant Demonic Tutor, making it the most likely to be included. The top-of-deck tutors are very good against combo decks where you need specific, narrow answers but typically bad against other fair decks where being able to outgrind is more important. If I add Vampiric Tutor and Enlightened Tutor I would likely make the following other changes:

+Winter Orb -Armageddon

+Eidolon of Rhetoric - Putrid Leech

+Seal of Primordium - Disenchant

+ Oblivion Ring -Council's Judgment

- Skinshifter

-Tarmogoyf
