Minor Update —Nov. 25, 2012

I'm siding out Deserted Temple for Cavern of Souls on the advice of my co-designer. We play enough Wizards to make Cavern a viable inclusion.

Have you considered Massacre Wurm ? I've found that it has a decent interaction with the navigator which results in an easy board wipe and causes a decent loss of life as well.

Massacre Wurm is just too expensive and limited to be applicable. It doesn't do much considering how much you have to pay to cast it, it's sorcery speed, and it needs another expensive card and more resources to turn into a hard board wipe.

Life loss and damage aren't really of great use to me. I kill players in one shot when I combo, so focusing on other wincons diverts resources.

I usually don't even put combo pieces like Deadeye Navigator into play until the turn I combo out.

gotcha that makes sense.

I've been testing Azusa, Lost but Seeking as a replacement for Primeval Titan . Got her out turn 3 with Life from the Loam picking fetches back up and proceeded to ramp into stupidity.

Azusa needs further testing, but she definitely shows promise.

Deck has been updated. Currently testing Azusa, Lost but Seeking as a replacement for Primeval Titan . It shows promise, but it has a lot to live up to given the card that it has to replace.

I think, how you described using Life from the Loam with Azusa, Lost but Seeking in conjunction with the fetches was brilliant. I think she will be a great addition as long as you can consistently get enough lands to fully capitalize on her ability.

Do you have a way to pump lands into an area where they can be played from regularly?

With Crucible of Worlds or Life from the Loam , I can capitalize on draw effects by discarding land cards at EoT and then playing them in subsequent turns (while keeping spells in my hand).

Crucible of Worlds and Life from the Loam also turn fetch lands into persistent land drops.

With Life from the Loam and Scroll Rack , I can pay 3 and draw 3 without losing advantage. It's pretty stupid.

As long as you can feed her she MAY turn out to be, dare I say it, better than PT here as she doesn't need to attack. She just lacks the body to swing.

In my Omnath, Locus of Mana deck: Rollover Minutes I ended up replacing him with card:Descendants' Path (It's elfball with Eldrazi). It's not a fair trade but it still hits 99% of the time.

The problem is that Primeval Titan fetches nonbasic lands and puts them into play. Azusa, Lost but Seeking only works with what you have in hand (and sometimes in the graveyard), but PT finds what you need. Usually, just the two lands from the ETB trigger are enough to win the game. One attack seals the deal. Anything after that is just extra. There's a lot to be said for finding any two nonbasics, especially when they can be Boseiju, Who Shelters All and Deserted Temple or Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth .

Oh yes I agree, though what I mean is IF you can feed her she will be able to pump out the same land advantage (minus the tutoring) without having to attack and risk losing your engine.

September 22, 2012 8:12 p.m.

I suppose that's a fair analysis in some sense. It's part of the reason I'm testing her. The player I've been working on this deck with was in the game where I Life from the Loam ed fetches every turn since the beginning of the game and concluded that this potential was worth looking into.

If you were able to play an Oracle of Mul Daya as well it could get worse.

September 22, 2012 8:22 p.m.

The funny thing is if you blink either Oracle of Mul Daya or Azusa, Lost but Seeking , their effects reset and you can play more lands.

I've never had that many lands in hand to even THINK about doing that. That's just mean though....

September 22, 2012 8:31 p.m.

You have never experienced the wrath of BUG draw power. Landing Consecrated Sphinx and protecting it in a 4-player game (which is how most events are run) basically drowns all other players with your card advantage.

No but I have some massive draw in Team Blade and deck:bruiser-light-of-voltron so I know how it can be.

It might just be that I am incorrect about the rules but if you count your commander then you have 101 cards. I thought the limit was 100 cards with the commander?

September 23, 2012 9:07 p.m.

It is. Apparently Cabal Coffers never got deleted from the decklist. Thanks for the catch.

This may have been asked before. How well does your deck function if Deadeye Navigator gets exiled? It just seems that a lot of your combos use him.

September 26, 2012 3:22 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #20

How are you liking Necropotence ? Every time it hits for me I love it.

September 26, 2012 3:32 p.m.

Deadeye Navigator makes winning easier, but it isn't essential to winning. I can replace it with Phantasmal Image to keep the infinite mana combo going or use Capsize with Eternal Witness for recursive wins.

Necropotence will likely remain in the deck, but I have only played it once since I made the change. It seems to do well.

September 26, 2012 3:45 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #22

Doesn't that always happen? You make 1-2 changes then you go to play it and those cards never show their faces. Hate that. I'm getting that with my testing of card:Descendants' Path

What do you think about Tamiyo, the Moon Sage as a planeswalker in EDH? Not suggesting you add it, but just wondering your opinion

September 27, 2012 7:17 p.m.

I'm underwhelmed by it. At the level of play I participate in, it's not really relevant and it's difficult to defend it until the ultimate. I could see it being viable in a more casual environment where combat-based strategies are the norm and there isn't a heavy control presence.

Just thought of some thing you might like Walk the Aeons + Crucible of Worlds + Azusa, Lost but Seeking is infinite turns for less mana.
