Intet, the Dreamer

Note: This deck has not been built with actual cards yet; it's just a theory-craft. Until I order physical copies of the cards in this deck, I am very much open to suggestions for cards to add and cards not to be included, and the decklist will change frequently as I reconfigure the deck after playtests.

To be honest, the ideas and desires that led to this deck started off focused on a Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind deck. I love the idea of quietly plotting against everyone at the table without the other players having any idea of what your plans are, and then dropping a potent spell, like Enter the Infinite, Time Warp, The Great Aurora, or Time Stretch out of nowhere. The deck has four winning combos: Brainstorm + Enter the Infinite + Laboratory Maniac , Beacon of Tomorrows + Isochron Scepter + Mystical Tutor , Eternal Witness + Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Time Warp , and Conjurer's Closet + Eternal Witness + Time Warp . The focus is the win no one else knew you had, and it requires a much better poker face than I think I have. Those cards are simply examples, but there's more that this deck can do to shake things up.

The inital goals of this deck in early game besides finding some mana are to find ways to protect Intet in advance of playing her and to keep opponents from getting out of hand before she starts attacking. The countermagic in this deck helps with both of those goals, while there are Equipment cards included (also Clout of the Dominus) to provide Intet with more direct protection. The hope is to minimize the number of times Intet leaves the field because every time she does, everything she exiled stays exiled permanently, and they're even exiled face-down, which is almost as bad as AWOL. Between countering board wipes and making her a difficult target, she should get away with at least a few attacks.

I am including Leyline of Anticipation and Vedalken Orrery in the deck to allow and perhaps encourage dumping the exiled cards at instant speed if Intet is about to leave and I can't prevent it. Outside of the "doomed Intet" scenario, certain players in my playgroup have seen enough blue control and combo-control decks to get a little nervous when a blue player doesn't cast any spells on their turn. Having the option to flash in literally everything makes more flexible strategy options available to me.

An Intet deck would never find any consistency at all if it couldn't even try to control, pick, and choose what shows up on top of the library for Intet to exile. To that end, Saheeli Rai and Brain in a Jar are here to let me scry on demand, and Halimar Depths, Sphinx of Jwar Isle, Mirri's Guile, Thassa, God of the Sea, Geist of the Archives serve as other ways to scry, check, or control the top few cards of the library. It's important for this deck to get at least one of these things before Intet comes out so that she's not left groping for good freebie spells and getting lands instead. I left out every card that would reveal what I'm doing (i.e. Future Sight) because I don't want any of my opponents to know what I'm up to. Mystical Tutor reveals what I retrieve with it, but it is also part of a combo with Isochron Scepter and Beacon of Tomorrows. Revealing what I draw for Keranos, God of Storms is fine because he is a bait card, but I refuse to let anything spoil the surprise when it comes to Intet's strategically important exiled cards. Dreams are private after all...

If you understood the reference I made in the title, I appreciate your literary knowledge. I've never actually read that book, though...

Updates Add

Some big changes as a result of recent playtests have led to the inclusion of Commander's Sphere, Rimescale Dragon, Darksteel Ingot, Halimar Depths, Brain in a Jar, and Temur Banner; a slight rebalance of the basic lands, and the conversion of all basic lands to Snow lands as a result of Rimescale Dragon's inclusion.
