Devour ALL Your Friends and Enemies

Commander / EDH Goblins Jank Multiplayer RG (Gruul) Tokens

This deck is a personal favorite of mine. There is more to it than a casual glance tells.

First this started off as a Thromok the Insatiable deck. The idea was put out a bunch of tokens and have Thromok the Insatiable eat them. With your now overly large Commander, start smashing faces. This strategy is furthered with cards like Anger and Brawn. The problem was that everyone could see this coming from a mile away and would keep up a removal/counter spell anytime Thromok the Insatiable was about to be cast.

With this in mind, I decided to make Thromok the Insatiable a hidden Commander within the deck and go so far as leverage the Devour mechanic as a whole in the deck.

Next I had to find a Commander that synergized with my new expanded strategy. Wort, the Raidmother seemed like a natural choice as she makes goblin tokens aka fodder for my Devour creatures, plus her ability would allow me to double up on my utility sorceries and instants.

Now that I had the Commander and the 2 basic mechanics of Devour and Conspire to work with the deck came together quickly. I knew I needed ramp. Cryptolith Rite, Burgeoning, Gruul Signet, Kodama's Reach, and Sol Ring are good early game ramp. Harvest Season is a great ramp card in this deck. Especially when you Conspire it with Wort, the Raidmother ability. I will be finding a spot for Traverse the Outlands once I get a copy.

While you ramp, building up a wide base of creatures is important. This includes bring out small creatures and token generation. Using Goblin Recruiter to go find Goblin Ringleader, Goblin Warchief, and Krenko, Mob Boss leads to some fun and explosive starts.

Now that you have ramped out and you have fodder to feed your Devouring horde, we need to get the beasts into your hand. For that we are using Chord of Calling, Defense of the Heart, Green Sun's Zenith, and Tooth and Nail. All of these cards are great, but the Conspiring them is even better (doesn't work with Defense of the Heart). A Conspired Chord of Calling or Green Sun's Zenith means you are getting 2 creatures out on the board and you get to decide which order they hit the field. For instance, grab Anger and Preyseizer Dragon. Have Anger enter the battlefield first. Now Preyseizer Dragon comes in and Devours Anger. Preyseizer Dragon gets an extra Devour trigger and now has haste. This is even better with a Conspired and Entwined Tooth and Nail. In this scenario, we go get 4 creatures and put them on the field. My favorite is first put Avenger of Zendikar, Anger, and Brawn on the field and the last to come in is Thromok the Insatiable. Assuming Thromok the Insatiable only Devours what we pulled up with Tooth and Nail and the tokens generated with Avenger of Zendikar (assuming only 7 lands plus Sol Ring in play), Thromok the Insatiable would be a 100/100 monster with haste and trample. Now that is some stomping power.

I have included Burn at the Stake, Chandra's Ignition, and Soul's Fire in case you have an opponent that turtle's up and you cannot get through with combat damage. Or if you feel the need to burn all your opponents in one shot with Chandra's Ignition and one of your insanely large Devour creatures.

Flooding the board with as many goblins as possible and then go searching for the big hungry devour creatures with a back up kill method of some potentially brutal burn spells is this deck in a nutshell. Using Wort's ability to copy Tooth and Nail or Chord of Calling is so much fun. There are a lot of targets for this synergy, but I purposely left out any 2 card win combo's out of this deck as it was not on theme and does not fit with my play group.

Hope you like this deck and feel free to leave feedback or give me an upvote.
