Bant, The Sublime Trifecta

Commander / EDH GWU (Bant)

TheLoneDart

Hey guys, welcome back to another one of my decks. This time I am going to take the challenge of providing you folks with a fun and challenging Bant EDH deck. The theme of this build is more or less Good Stuff. It has no singular approach or combo that we're attempting to achieve, just more or less a fun creature deck that has an endless amount of options for playing a solid match.

One thing you'll notice with this deck is that it's all about abilities. No card I have included here is vanilla. Instead, I believe in EDH you get the most value from cards that always have a trigger or ability that gives a secondary benefit beyond their presence on the board. Furthermore, the most important card type in this deck is creatures. I have chosen not to add a great deal of control, removal, suppression from non-creature sources simply because EDH has always been a fun format for me and I want to do my best to make sure my deck plays in a fun, though-provoking and tactical way that isn't noninteractive or boring to play against.

Back to the previous observation that this is a creatures-based, abilities-focused deck, you'll notice a few things. First, I have included a great deal of creature-searching cards. It's important to have correct responses to opponents actions in order to make sure you can win. Cards like Worldly Tutor, Birthing Pod, Yisan, the Wanderer Bard, Chord of Calling, Eladamri's Call, Eldritch Evolution, Green Sun's Zenith, Primal Command, Wargate, Recruiter of the Guard all allow us to grab creatures we need throughout the game so that we have answers.Beyond this, there's an element of recursion incorporated into the deck that is important in salvaging once-used creatures that have been lost. To this end we can see Sun Titan, Reveillark, Den Protector and Eternal Witness are present.

Moving on, the second thing you'll notice as a theme in the deck is drawing, something that is secondary in important to searching in EDH. To fill this slot we are using things like Arcanis the Omnipotent, Edric, Spymaster of Trest, Prime Speaker Zegana, Tatyova, Benthic Druid, Tireless Tracker and Kindred Discovery. There are other cards through the deck that provide some combination of draw/search functions when triggered, such as Dragonlord Ojutai so please take some time to review the list to see these additions.

Beyond these initial themes we begin to see more of a variance in abilities attached to creatures. As a means of highlighting some of the important components of the deck I'll just point out a few notables that provide major upsides for the deck....

For starters, we have Admonition Angel, which provides high quality removal of opponents creatures upon landfall.

Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit provides ongoing buffering to our creatures that interacts very well with things like Panharmonicon.

To this end, Panharmonicon is a beauty in this deck. It triggers our commander Derevi, Empyrial Tactician's ability two-fold. The same goes for mostly everything in the deck, including Anafeza and Admonition Angel, who were just mentioned.

Shalai, Voice of Plenty protects us and our creatures. Archetype of Imagination gives us a strict evasion advantage that can often win games.

Champion of Lambholt is great at just being a dick and gets better as the game progresses.

Chasm Skulker makes an army of blockers if an opponent is bold enough (or stupid enough) to blow it up.

Dragonlord Dromoka adds an element of protection from control decks.

Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite just slaughters opponents boardstate and gives us a huge advantage.

Ezuri, Claw of Progress is another high-quality buffer.

Giltspire Avenger will make opponents very selective about putting their strong creatures into attack against us.

Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer is basically pacifism on a stick that can be abused with Derevi and Panharmonicon

Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker becomes an eventual problem for opponents and also has an evasion benefit.

Jace, Vryn's Prodigy   doesn't need any real explanation since I think we all know how good of a multitool he is.

Karametra, God of Harvests is a big body, strong and thins our deck.

Kira, Great Glass-Spinner makes our creatures nearly impossible for opponents to remove by the time we get into late game.

Lighthouse Chronologist gives us turns and turns and turns and turn ad nauseaum.

Linvala, Keeper of Silence shuts off opponents stuff including commanders, she is just evil.

Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist basically makes opponents impotent and can be heavily abused with Derevi's tap/untap ability.

Murkfiend Liege is a buffer and an untap engine.

Qasali Pridemage bails us out of prisons, locks or takes away opponent's tools.

Rafiq of the Many makes creatures stronger. period.

Rubinia Soulsinger let's us commit heists.

Sublime Archangel basically makes our creatures absolutely nuts if we can make them unblockable.

Speaking of unblockable, Thassa, God of the Sea gives us both unblockability and scry options.

From here, we finish our creature analysis and are left with only the non-creature spells in the deck. From this category we have a few things, mainly just removal, permission and planeswalkers. Since this list is short I ask that you review the non-creature card types in the list and make your own examination. I will eventually put a description up for this part, as well.

Thank you very much for stopping to check out this deck. I hope you like its overall objective of generality, quality and fun. Please leave a +1 so other people can find the deck :)
